Mark Willacy travels to radiation-poisoned Fukushima as few residents return home after evacuation lift. He uncovers startling new evidence of the dangers that still lurk there, and the near insurmountable task of cleaning it up.
Five years after the nuclear meltdown, the Fukushima countryside remains full of radiation and virtually empty of people. As levels spike on the radiation meter at Fukishima a guide from the plant operator TEPCO warns Willacy: "they don’t want to go any further”. “In the beginning I felt lonely", says Naoto Matsumura, described as Japan’s most contaminated person. "But now I’m used to it”. The task of neutralising hundreds of tonnes of melted nuclear fuel turns out to be far greater than previously thought, and may never be fully remedied. Naoto Kan, Japan’s Prime Minister at the time of the crisis and an anti-nuclear convert, believes that "the accident took us to the brink of destruction".

When the nuclear war broke out there will be a lot of this kind of scenario to tackle not to mention those nuclear submarines sunk in deep ocean floor. A nightmare for mankind.

There is no such thing as 'de-contamination'. We cannot 'de-commission' a melted nuclear reactor, that's like saying you can clean a burning car. Just the very language that we use in relation to nuclear is a lie, every term is non applicable in this situation. We don't have the language! or the technology to EVER deal with this.

Probably not a good idea to build a nuclear power plant on the beach in a known tsunami area... Jus' sayin

I just went to ground zero! One side of the street it could be high! and the other acceptable ! It's a ghost town yes! Surreal, yes! However people drive extremely fast through the hot spots and slower in others! However it is the closest thing to a movie set you will ever see! What's strange is the millions of dollars of new buildings and homes including ancient ones abandoned! The radiation is actually low however the real hot spots will be possibly that way forever! That means you will not have lunch at the park bench! On another note! It is extremely crystal clear and brilliant , the air and sky and color perception! Better than on top of a far away mountain ! Maybe because of lack of cars and people?

Japan has been destroyed. All that land now made redundant and people displaced. The former presidents fear what might've happened if all reactors were to go off should be enough for japan to cease all nuclear energy.
