I don't think it was a race. Trains are not allowed to play games. Possibly, both trains started at the same time by coincidence and both had the same allowed speed.

Yep, seen these type of races many times in between Bardhaman-Asansol. Few notable were 15047 vs 12023 , 12334 vs 12314., 12322 vs 12332(All at MPS ) But no matter how many times you witness, it gives you the absolute adrenaline rush every single time.

Usually for morning trains the hoerah bound direction is given the priority for using middle line as a high number of express and fast locals go towards howrah. I also had the privilege to watch something similar (Express trains) during my childhood. It was in between Howrah and Kharagpur and this is possible as there are three rail lines between these two stations. Have also watched local trains in Mumbai doing the same..

Ye race nhi hai ye dono train apne speed ki sima pe chal rahe hai mai alp loco pilot hu bilaspur cg mein Aisa hamare sath kayi bar Hua hai hum train se race nhi lagate hai jitni speed ki hame permission hai utni hi speed mein hum loco pilot train. Run karte hai agar speed ki sima se jyada tej chalate hai to train ke guard manager train ko dhimi kar dete hai unke pas bhi train breake hoti hai agar tej sema se bahar hum train. Run kare aur koi dibba Palat jaye to guard train manager hum loco pilot ki galti nikalkar hame suspend karwa Sakta hai ye koi car bike nhi hai jo race bol rahe ho
