I remember the late (great) Bernard Wright did a version of this on his 1983 album "Funky Beat". Good lesson and well played as always.

Until the last 2 minutes I thought I could do the walking bass thing, then you might as well have blown me away in the Spring! haha...

Hello Tony, I had not come in months, but now sharing this brief time here with all you, I also learn why my little audience increases when the topic is on something , but rather in a relaxed way emotions wise. If I go on my topic list 1, 2, 3, is not the problem to be organized or in order, but how rich in feelings and emotions the content is. Thanks a lot!!!!, Happy new year.!!

I found that, especially on chords of 1 or 2 bar duration, landing on a note 1 step above or below a targeted 3rd note of a chord works well. Then you resolve to that targeted 3rd later on in the bar. This gives you further possibilities.

The real book right hand melody is disgustingly from from what Cliff Brown actually played, for the bridge section. Any can hear it starts with Eb D for example, not E D

Awesome lesson! Years of playing left hand walking bass blues lines will help me out here hopefully. Dave Frank uses this technique beautifully. My jazz solos are still sounding a bit too predominantly bluesy because they’re so ingrained in my muscle memory. Fantastic advice on the notes to target in the right hand to construct basic improv solo lines.

Thanks. Dave Frank is the man for this style.

@@TonyWinston He’s is, but you’ve given me the basics of the technique, structure and especially the timing so I have the tools to work on. I’m used to blues walking bass but this is a step up. You’re a terrific teacher mate.

Great tip. When improvising, stick to a LH bass line you know.
