This popular carol was written by Isaac Watts, whose sacred words were inspired by Psalm 98.
The tune paired with Watt's text is called 'Antioch' and is attributed to Lowell Mason and George Frideric Handel(this explains the resemblance to some passages in Handel’s Messiah).
It's about celebrating Christ's triumphant return joyfully and with praises to the Lord.
