Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee, Op’ning to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness Drive the dark of doubt away Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day! All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays, Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea, Singing bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in Thee. Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Wellspring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, All who live in love are Thine Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine. Mortals, join the happy chorus, Which the morning stars began Father love is reigning o’er us, Brother love binds man to man. Ever singing, march we onward, Victors in the midst of strife, Joyful music leads us Sunward In the triumph song of life.

I was expecting something more akin to the easily singable, congregational “Joyful Joyful” you might hear in church, but instead got a condensed a cappella version of Ode to Joy with the words to joyful joyful. I sometimes wondered what such a piece would sound like. Now I know. Mind. Blown.

This was incredible! If ever there was a time for applause in a Mennonite service, this qualified.

Clapping for Christian songs is so irreverent, I must say.
@winaschedule6503Ай бұрын
@@Undamaumberella Is it, though? People clap to show gratitude for the music that's been created and the joy that washed over them when they heard it. The Bible, meanwhile, contains more than 200 verses that cite singing, songs, hymns, music, dance, and instruments in the context of worship. Most people I know would feel CRUSHED if not allowed to express their joy and gratitude after hearing this and would consider the SILENCE irreverent. After all, it's more blessed to give than to receive. Applause when an audience is bursting with joy lets BOTH sides give and receive. Make sense?

Singing is praying twice! Beautiful! More difficult as it is acapella!

I am glad nobody was taking a video of my reaction. They would have seen a man alternating between open-mouthed astonishment, and tears. Wow.
