From a recovered alcoholic/addicts perspective I liked how the alcoholic in the story said “but you always make me feel like the problem is me” & “how come you only there when I’m trying to get clean” because it’s a very realistic example of the rationalization and victimhood self pity bull S*** we say in our addiction.
@edijskocins1271
@edijskocins1271 Ай бұрын
Because the addicted person is the problem. I've been trying to get my mother from the alchohol for so long, tried so many ways to get to her. Just doesn't work. If addicted person cant look in to the mirror and accept that he is the problem. There will be no changes. People around addicted person can do only as much, at the end of the day, addicted person have to be the "strong" one and want to get out of addiction.
@kylebanks13
@kylebanks13 Ай бұрын
Yeah I was watching another reaction from a recovered addict and when the song was over they even said that during the first verse it was almost making them upset because deep in their brain they still have some victim mentality of being an addict. They realized it was flawed thinking but it still goes to show.
@Cripplified
@Cripplified Ай бұрын
If you are truly a "recovered" alcoholic/addict, you'd know there is no such thing. Once an addict, always an addict. You are not recovered, you're recovering. This is the point I wish more people understood about how addiction IS a disease. You can fully recover from injuries, cancer, you name it. As an addict of any substance or action, you can never get back your brain to acting like it once was. Your dopamine and serotonin receptors are forever changed. And even if you haven't touched a substance in decades, that demon and though will still come out of nowhere with no warning sometimes, and it's up to the person to not relapse. I'm a recovering alcoholic and there's not a day that doesn't go by that I don't look in the mirror and know I'm the problem. But the problem is there in my brain, and when we're at our lowest points of the addiction, we are crying out to our loved ones to stop blaming us. Because it isn't fun to feel controlled by something you can't explain unless you have lived it. There are so many people who will shrug off the second part as "this is how addicts will deflect themselves from blame" without absorbing the true point is "addicts have nowhere to turn besides drugs, and when their loved ones only support them through recovery but get angry at them at their lowest, that drives the addiction deeper" because addicts know what the substance will bring them, even for just a brief moment in time.

@@kylebanks13 as an addicted person I can tell u that we know we are the weak ones. But just to feel normal we need that crutch. It’s weak true, but it’s not what we want at all. It takes harsh reactions from family and I’ve lost everything at this point and now I know it’s time.

Facts. I've had friends and family who struggle with addiction and I can see the pain from both sides. When you care about someone, their pain is your pain. If you can't handle that, you try and let them go and move on. Its definitely a massive loss to both people.

Crazy thing is I just listened to the song and fhen you guys literally posted your reaction video to it. Joyner and jelly roll did a very beautiful job executing this song and video. The way he can effectively place himself in two different perspectives and paint a vivid picture with just his words is honestly amazing. He's done this with so many songs, such as I'm not racist, like ya'll stated; etc. I also agree. I would love for him to do a play. I think it would be remarkable

From someone's posts in some other reaction videos' comments - The guy playing the "Junkie" is my fiancés good friend Mic DeVine. They all grew up together rapping in Worcester, MA with Joyner. Mic wrote/made the video that inspired this song, which is why he was in the video. Mic is an AMAZING rapper, and would be Forever grateful if you could give it a listen, & maybe even react to it. If this got you choked up, then Mic DeVines 'Way Down We Go' will destroy you. (It's dedicated to one of our friends, Dave Fournier, who lost battle with his addiction.)
