@@aaronflanary271 Broski is absolutely a hater. He will ride the coattail and play along to get along because he feels he is owed something because he’s a long time friend. Nothing you do for him will ever be enough why? Because as you continue to thrive he continues to think he deserves more of what you have even though he had already been repaid and he will never put the work in to be where you are. He’s lazy and disturbingly audacious and even admits it. These are friends who say insults and play them as jokes. But they’re hands will be out because they know you’ll be guilty enough to cave. Yea but when you do everything for a homie, give them money, advice, love and a place to lay they head at but then outta nowhere they steal from you. Then you forgive because of yalls history and them saying they were hard up. You tell them if they need just ask and you shall receive if i got it for sho.. then they know you are hard up yourself after your momma dies and had to foot the bills for the funeral while your pops is on his way to the grave and everybody can see that youre going through hell losing your folks all the sudden and he watched you fall in your depression and didnt try and stop you when you took all the pills to end your own life. Didnt even call the cops or ambulance for a guy. My sister ended up coming by randomly and found me.. but the guy you trusted, been through shit with just stole your wallet and credit cards when you were overdosing.. and when i get my shit pumped out and dont die, when i got out of suicide watch and released i come home to find more of my shits gone with him on the security cameras jacking me. Maxed out all of my cards, overdrew my bank account, then my dad dies and sister been broke so i get stuck with that debt too. And after all that, the guy comes knocking talking about sorry and his gf needed the money for an abortion and said she was hard up for some dope and he needed the money. Then asks for more money saying he knows i got it but gets mad at me when i tell him he already got every bit of money i had, lost my job because i was in the hospital, no parents or family to fall back on or ask for help. No friends, no girl. Yet he has everything given to him or he stole it.. but the guy still takes the little bag of smoke i had to keep my head sane. Thats a true friend there.. before all that he never stole or asked for shit from me. I never did him either.. now tell me youd help out a broski again? People are fucked up and aint nobody give a shit about you except if they blood and still yet might just say they care. But wheb shit gets hard they only care for #1 and will do whatever to help out #1.. greedy selfish conscience lacking no moral standards fucks all over this earth.. they just want to see you fall as soon as you start to come up above them and boot you out when they might come up.. is just how it is.. aint nobody right anymore. @@ardenthellspawnI agree with to a point. Mostly helping homie out, cuz dude taking about hoping he falls back into the hood, where he's still at, and if that was his Day1, he should be by his side, and that'd be a natural call to make for your #1. On the other hand, Broski was letting out all the "stored ammo# collected through ou the years, meaning my man was ready to fire at the man who was always there for him, as soon as he wasn't satisfied, and worst of all as how he spoke on "deserving everything he had, and more, and that's basically him being nice while saying that, and knowing he don't work fo what he feels he deserves", basically says that he'd never be satisfied, cuz he's just a cup with a big ass whole in it, that's constantly needing the closest one to'm to fill'm up. I know that not everything is seen in black/white, but friendship is just that. You're either a true friend that can be trusted or you ain't period, and unfortunately, Broski obviously can't..... right?

A lot of people think this is about a friend who betrays you when you find success, but remember Joyner wrote this. I think this is more about the way you THINK when you find success. Never knowing if you did enough, never knowing when they will turn on you, never knowing if they are genuine or not, never knowing if they are satisfied or resentful. His friend could be saying something kind but because he's successful he doesn't know whether its genuine or not. Or at least that's the way I read it.

A good take--I don't think either theory disproves the other. I like your take..but the entitlement and double mindedness of ppl who are secretly insatiable is so real too, even if you're not a celebrity w/millions..fam and friends sometimes rear and ugly head as soon as you don't give the millionth yes..and I love how he flipped, because ppl literally FLIP like that! "..I deserve it maybe..." ppl believe that and didn't/won't even contribute to your success, may even be an obstacle but love keeps ppl around. But again..I love your take b/c that's real.."was it enough? Should I have done more?" Is a real struggle with the heart of a giver and ppl pleaser..I'm getting over all types of unhealthy dispositions like that! It helps you recognize the broski's in your world so easily when you know what's real. 🥰 peace and love!

I also think he just wrote it as a dramatic hypothetical, just like the song that put him on in the first place. I think a lot of rappers are scared to write straight-up fiction because of the whole "you need to be real" stigma in the game, but honestly, fiction is more interesting than life most of the time and they're embellishing / exaggerating so damn much as is, may as well just go all the way. Stories don't have to be real to be worth telling, feel?
