They should make it 200 watts@8 ohms, with a di, and internal power supply. Loose the comp and have a gain channel. It would be bigger, but a real bass amp. I've tried 50 watt bass amps before, and it's not enough for any bottom end.

I use the FX loop when I want to bypass the built in preamp, plugging to the Return directly, IE: Use a Sansamp Pream on a Fender or Orange amp without having both adding "colors" to the sound, but having the power amp still. That way you can have your one amp, and 2 or 3 preamps for more tonal. The DI, though... THAT's a most, It should have one. * Edit: Complains no bass player uses the FX loop... Uses the FX loop to record to the interface. (I know that's the D.I. job, just found it funny)

Lol it seems hypocritical, but the effects loop is literally the only way to record this thing without a cab!

50 watts is plenty for a small room. the preamp tube is on the second channel with compression so that's why you should use the included Footswitch. Thanks for the review.

Agree with Mike above-I want an FX return on my amp because I’ve dialed in my tone through a preamp pedal. Also, I have two different DI outs on my board (preamp and cab sim), so I’m good there. 50 watts at 4ohms is a bit weird, though. If I want an amp that small I doubt I’m bringing two cabs with me.

if they did it at 8 ohms the watt rating would be much tiny-er. For a lightweight 25 watt class d amp with a speaker, vintage look and Balanced direct out for 100 dollars there’s the..

Ok, 1st review of the Badass and Joyo cab. I used it on a gig at the weekend in a Marquee, with about 120 people. I had the amp on about 75% volume on the stage as a backline Monitor, with the high end boosted a little so I could hear the notes better. Took a line out from the FX send to the desk, had the high end rolled off and a little low boost. Out front it sounded thunderous. So don't worry about this, it's only 50 watts, technically you could use a Tonex pedal, which isn't an amp, and still go to the PA and get a huge sound. If I'd have wanted, I could have had some bass in my wedge monitor, but that would've been excessive and pointless. I could hear myself perfectly. Besides my wedge is pretty much for my vocals. So, for pretty much any gigging bassist, this amp would be perfectly adequate, don't jydge it by it's physical size. It's Badass!!!

Do you by any chance still have this head, AMP? I think one thing you could do with it is run the FX loops send of the BaDass into the FX loops return of your Fender Rumble 500. With that, you'll get still get the Joyo's tube sound, but 500w of your Rumble's solid state power! Learned about this trick from the Bass Channel!

I didn't know it was based on Ampeg, I sorta hear it a bit... But yeah it's way more neutral or whatever. I wish it sounded more SVT, like a bigger version of the Hotone Thunder... I would get that in a heartbeat. Personally I like the FX Loop because I like to use time based FX when playing the bass at home, doing more ambient stuff. But gigging in a band I have never needed it.

If you really want a XLR output then run the FX send into a DI box, problem solved.

Nice review! I'm a sucker for the green finish but man no DI out on that is pretty rough. Would've been a cool option to use for YT videos with a DI out.

Nice review man! I was curious to know more about this head so thanks! Guess the BT makes this a great practice amp at home. However cheap small cabs are not that common…? The drive sounds pretty good! Shame about the lack of DI, but then again a good one (that is actually worth using) would definitely increase the price of the head…

Yeah, I was surprised to find very few suitable cabs for this amp. They exist, but they're not common nor inexpensive. Definitely a cute and fun little amp otherwise.

50 watts is perfect if you don't have a self indulging drummer that has to play a ffff all the time. As a matter of fact I only play with drummers that will use electronic drum kits so the volume can be adjusted to the room.

Funny, your Fender Rumble review just appeared on my feed yesterday and now you posted a video that's not only somewhat related but you also referenced it in the end! What's this all about, KZbin guys? Jokes apart, loved your review! It looks like this amp has tubes in it, judging by the vents on the chassis, does it?
@ampthebassplayer2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does have a tube preamp and a solid state power section. That’s the magic behind it’s overdrive. On most solid state amps, driving the preamp section doesn’t result in that sort of pleasant distortion.

At the start of the video you make clear that it’s a really tiny unit, just after you complain that it’s not small enough like a small plastic multi FX; well it’s a dual channel bass amp, not a plastic pedal, and yes it has power requirements. The effect loop is actually not a bad idea and lots of pros use it just like the d.i. is overrated by the new wave of weekend warriors. Bass player don’t use the XLR port, the sound guys do. Just use a cab and mic it; that’s what amps and cabs are for. If the brand had put an XLR on that thing you would be winning about the lack of speaker simulation, and if it had speak sim you’d want IR loading. You want all that? Go and buy a Kemper or something.
@ampthebassplayer2 жыл бұрын
Fair points. However! At the beginning of the video, I had just taken it out of the box and it is very small. After actually taking it somewhere, I found that small doesn’t mean portable. I stand by my insistence of a DI though. Most places are not prepared nor want to mic a bass cab so XLR is good to have. I will agree that if they had included a DI I would have complained about something else because, ya know, that’s how a review works.

@@simaojoseph _"Just use a cab and mic it, that's what amps and cabs are for"_ ... Wait... isn't that what an XLR jack is for - so you *DON'T* have to do all that when playing a live gig? Not to mention, amps and cabs are simply there to amplify your sound - mic's are there to capture and/or record sound. Big difference between the uses for a mic and XLR jack. And actually now that I think about it, you can also use an XLR when recording through an interface and transmitting the sound and tone of your amp instead of only having the option to mic it (which tons of pros use as well, not just "weekend warriors").
@simaojoseph2 жыл бұрын
@@SetFire2TheNightSky you obviously don’t know the f... your talking about. “Tons of Pro’s use as well..” that’s just laughable. On a guitar amp the xlr is useless if you don’t have some sort of cab simulation. And for recording guitars, like you said, you don’t need a mic. Well let me tell you; you don’t even need an amp either. But what is the subject of this video/“review”? An AMP!!! Have nice one.

@@simaojoseph Lol! _"You obviously don't know what the f*** [you're] talking about"_ ... Great pot calling kettle black moment there. Yes we're talking about an amp - specifically a *_BASS_* amp and if you had any clue what you're stupidly spouting off about, you'd know about the importance of an XLR jack with bass equipment like amp heads, pre-amps and effects pedals (just ask random bass channels about the importance about them and see how many agree with your nonsense) but hey, continue throwing your infantile tantrums on something you obviously know nothing about. I'll let you post the last comment here so you can feel "big" cause you got the "last word". You've already wasted too much of my time.
