I had been considering this and storing cigarillos inside for my desk. Couple questions, how good would you say the seal is? I don't mind calibrating an analog, but it's pointless if the box doesn't retain. And when you remove the ashtray is the drawer area visible inside or is it cut just deep enough for the metal to sit?

The seal was actually pretty flush. When I tested the humidity, it kept very well. I left it that way for a few days and it was good. The ashtray is cut just deep enough. You won't see into the drawer. I actually use a round coaster on it (a basic one that you may have for home). I just lay it im the coaster area. But yes, the humidor was surprisingly good. I don't use it for long-term storage but as I mentioned, it maintained pretty well. I did old-school seasoning (wipe inside, check 24 hrs) but if you want to fully season, get an 84 Boveda pack and lay it in for 1-2 weeks before storing cigars.

@@squidvishus think one of those drymistat sticks would work well? I had also considered trying to open the humidifier and swapping out the foam for the gel beads, as i have a large bag of them. You got yourself a new subscriber.

Well thanks much, my friend. I think a humicare stick would be better. I have drymistat tubes that I use in acrylic stand-up humidors because I sometimes leave just a small bit of water in them after the gel absorbs, and I don't want it to leak. However, if you drain all water completely, I think it would be good. I totally agree about the foam. I know I have told people to use them if that's all you have, but check it frequently for mold. I usually just pitch them and use a stick (with beads) or Boveda pack. Thanks very much for your comments. Check some of the other vids out. I do mention humidifiers and test hygrometers so people know if they are accurate and work. Even if they are off 5% - 10%, I let you know so you can keep that in mind if you don't use a replacement.
