The recipe works. It took about 18 hrs for my yogurt to get tangy when left out on the counter, overnight. The brand I used ("Native", green can) got very thick when refrigerated (if anyone has every tried Siggy's Triple Cream yogurt - it's as thick as that). Consistency was little grainy but, overall, a perfect substitute for dairy yogurt. I tried another KZbinr's recipe for coconut which required more steps and arrowroot flower that did not turn out well. Joy's recipe is fast and I got the consistency I needed.

All coconuts are organic so don't be fooled with the word Organic. I am talking about fresh coconut. Coconut grow on very tall trees and the coconut water and flesh is found in the hard shell and covered with a thick husk. It's not easy to get it out. I used a machete to crack it open but these days I use a chopper.

If you think those strawberries are great, you should taste and see the ones we get here in Norway. They are much darker red all the way through and the flavor is soooooo much stronger. Appearantly strawberries get sweeter and more flavorful in colder climates... Only downside is that the season is short... We really enjoy it though (and use imported ones the rest of the year)... 😊

It cultures better with a bit of sugar, but it will culture some without. For Tangier yogurt with more bacteria, add a spoon or two of a sugar sweetner, like cane sugar, coconut sugar, honey, or maple syrup. It will also culture better if you heat the mix to 110° first, then add the probiotics.

It does take me 2-3 days to get the tanginess I like and before I put it in the fridge, I add cinnamon and vanilla. Before eating, I add fresh fruit, nuts, and roasted coconut slivers- DELICIOUS! I just ordered some more probiotics (sam brand you recommend) and this time I ordered the 50 billion vs just the 15 billion per capsule- will either use one capsule per 2 cans of coconut milk or 2 per 3 cans..should work well, I hope

Joy, you are an ANGEL! I was looking for something to use as a yogurt starter, but what I found is expensive! The probiotics are a perfect solution and I will happily try it to make my very first vegan (btw are bacteria vegan? 😉) yoghurt!!! Thank you so much 😊

It depends on the probiotics. The ones I use are vegan because they are not grown on a dairy medium. You can use code JOYOUS20 for 20% off at www.genuinehealth.com/en-ca/products/gut-health-probiotics/ Enjoy!

Um, just saying, I don't think any capsules have plastic in them. They are just either vegan or not vegan. If they are not then they are made out of gelatin. If they are vegan they are made out of vegetable glycerin.... not plastic

Many probiotics are “enteric coated” and this coating does in fact contains plastics. So it is a good idea to go plastic-free.

If there is extra junk like stabilizers in your coconut milk then it prob wont separate. Just check the ingredients list.

Thank you! This video is now over 5 years old (2017), so coconut cream was not available in any grocery stores back then. However, if it has emulsifiers like most "creams" do then it probably won't work.

@ Joyous Health hi there! Where can I purchase the probiotics capsules? I live in Hawaii, would that be at Target? Or Down to Earth Organic Store, help. Aloha! Mahalo!🌺🌺🌺

@joyoushealth 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think the probiotics from Genuine Health are sold in Hawaii but you can use the retail locator over here as you may be able to order them online: www.genuinehealth.com/where-to-buy/ Alternatively, you can source a high-quality probiotic from your local natural health food store and that would work as well!

Good day: found another hot health nut to stalk! I have been missing the lack of Chobani coconut greek yogurt stocked in the grocery (their best flavor along with lime). I did not think it was so easy to make. Also add coconut flakes, coconut sugar, etc, to this. I have been experiencing stomach problems too so I might get some of these probiotics (telling this is not in Google dictionary). They have one with 15 billion and other with 50 billion, and women's stuff which I do not need. Not sure of the difference other than strength?

Thanks! Questions 1.- does the yogurt come out a bit on the sour side? like regular yogurt? 2. if we don't want it creamy, can we use the coconut milk as-is? 3. What about health-wise? Does coconut not have high saturated fat that causes heart issues? Thanks again
@joyoushealth
@joyoushealth 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will be a bit sour-tasting because it's fermented. I think if you used the coconut milk as is, it might be too liquidy unless you're okay with that? A can of coconut milk on its own though doesn't have probiotic cultures in it. Coconut does contain saturated fat but its not to be feared. I have a blog post on it here which might explain it in greater depth for you: www.joyoushealth.com/15148-blog-saturated-fat-does-not-increase-the-risk-of-heart-disease

Thanks for posting this video. I made my first batch last week. Used 60% coconut milk, refrigerated it so it was quite thick. I used two probiotic capsules and left it for two days in the cupboard (approx temp 25 celcius). I turned out nicely. But then after putting it into the fridge, it became clumpy. I expected it to become thicker in the fridge because coconut tends to solidify when it cools, but the clumpiness is not as nice to eat as smooth coconut yogurt. Do you have any suggestions to correct this next time?
@joyoushealth
@joyoushealth 7 жыл бұрын
Hmm that's odd! I used Cha's Organics coconut milk so maybe that's the difference? It's super rich, thick and creamy! You could always strain it if it is too clumpy for your liking!

Thanks ever so much for sharing with us this good news.... using coconut milk. My problem is the starter. The probiotics you used is not available here in the Philippines. It is the plain unsweetened unflavored yogurt that I buy and use... with full cream cows milk.

Kefir uses a different strain of bacteria, so it doesn't thicken. Kefir in the cream like she does will still be very thick, kefir in coconut milk will stay thin. Still tasty, good for smoothies, but not a spoonable yogurt.
