Arabella seeking attention from people a couple of times is a perfect example of them still being dogs. No matter how well-trained a Service Dog is, they still have their moments of acting like dogs, in this case wanting to say hi to people. ☺️💜
@JoyRoss4 жыл бұрын
Yes LOL, and she had worked so hard all the way up to the store, she thought that since Amanda looked at her, it meant she wanted to say hi to her. That’s why it’s up to us as the handler to keep our service dogs Guide Dogs in check. They need a little reminder as well from time to time which is normal. We cann’t expect them to be perfect every second they are working, they are dogs like you said :-)
@shandavanderark35504 жыл бұрын
@@JoyRoss SO true! I think it's great for people to see real life with a Service or Guide Dog though! As a trainer, I obviously hope the dogs I train will stay on task, but the reality is that they have their moments. We rely on these amazing animals so much, and they do that, but they are still dogs. Hopefully, this also helps educate the public to NOT try to distract them when they're working!

Especially Labs! Such people loving dogs! My SD is a Lab mix and boy oh boy does he get off track at times looking for attention from strangers (more so children) haha! He may be a task trained dog but He is still a dog! So you got that right! Service dogs are not robots they are dogs! Well trained but they still get what I call “puppy brain.”

I am so angered that the car turning right on green would be so naïve to not even look for pedestrians. Cars turning right on green always need to yield to pedestrians!! Please know the rules of the road before you drive or someone will end up dead! 30:31 is a perfect example :(
@AlbanianRS4 жыл бұрын
I never realized it was like that. How come the sign tells pedestrians to go when the light is green to also turn right? That’s really dangerous.
@juliahake64074 жыл бұрын
@Changename I noticed in large cities, like New York or Boston, all lights will stop for every pedestrian lane to be open. In less populated areas where people don't travel much on foot, only two lanes will be open. To keep the intersection from getting backed up, the turn lane is allowed to go (as long as pedestrians aren't on the white lines). It's really dangerous because some people *cough cough TAXI CABS cough* try to wedge their way through, even when people are walking when they should be. Although, it's also dangerous for traffic to be backed up. If people just followed the law all would be well lol
@kiernon4 жыл бұрын
@@AlbanianRS It's not that dangerous because green on turn means yield for us anyway. Only with a green arrow does it mean nothing will be in your way.
@wendyWERKKZ4 жыл бұрын
@@AlbanianRS I dont know why exactly it's like that lol, but its similar to that here, the rules of the road always tell you when you make a turn to slow or yield because someone else might be crossing the street, like it's the basics of driving but alot of people dont! Some traffic lights show you a light up crossing figured to alert drivers someone might cross but itll last maybe a couple seconds to like 30 seconds, but even if it's not lit a driver before making a turn should be looking to make sure no cars or pedestrians are coming by. I've literally had the right of way to cross the street and made direct eye contact with the drivers and they'll still go if you dont literally start walking in front on them first to force then to stop (I dont normally do that but I've also seen careless pedestrians assume people will stop once they start walking across the street so they ALSO dont check the road before they cross)
@aislingnicharra95494 жыл бұрын
@@AlbanianRS Because by law you are not allowed to turn off if pedestrians are waiting to cross, only if they have crossed your side of the road you can drive.

Thank you, and that is the reason I took the time to do the video with Doug. I wanted him to know how much I truly appreciated his kind gesture, but I also wanted all of you to be inspired to do the same if you see someone else like me who may be in need. The world needs more kindness, and needs others who are more than willing to look out of their own world to make a difference in someone else’s life. Thanks for noticing my purpose and my heart
@Zakuyuki4 жыл бұрын
@@JoyRoss You are right, the world needs more kindness! You are doing your part to make that happen! When I see people who always put themselves first and seem better off fot it, it makes me question whether they might be doing it right. But when someone appreciates me going out of my way to help them, that is what makes me continue helping others! Let me also tell you how helpful your videos are! I've had the opportunity to apply what I learned when a blind woman asked me for directions and it turned out to be quite complicated. I think I was able to handle the situation a lot better because of what I've seen in your videos! Maybe you're already doing it, but have you ever thought about visiting schools to show children what you show in your videos? There is a blind man with a guide dog in our town who does that! The local newspaper even wrote about him! He also said that financial support for blind people is completely insufficient to provide adequate care. Blindness in Germany affects 150k people and 500k people who are partially sighted but they don't seem to have a lobby. I don't even know how to go about changing that. I'm sorry this comment turned so depressing. All the best wishes to you from Caroline in Germany!

I was so scared for you during each crossing and even though I’ve already seen the clip you posted where that car almost hit you I still freaked out. My fiancé and I had a whole discussion about whether it should be okay for cars to turn right on a green light when someone is standing there. I said each car turning right should have to stop and access the situation before they move forward to prevent instances like this! If the car behind the first car had stopped instead of following the other car forward then they wouldn’t have almost hit you and Arabella.

Yeah that part of the video made me mad! I am glad that I learned something though! Definitely watch when turning. I try to but I know sometimes I don’t see people crossing until after I start to go. I am sure I would have stopped instead of just following the other car turning right. Unless I wasn’t able to see there was a person there. If I saw a person I wouldn’t have just pulled out like that!
@lucywalsh29514 жыл бұрын
In Australia at some intersections, the car can turn when the light is green to go ahead. Which means the pedestrian light is green for pedestrians to cross too. However - you can not turn if there is a pedestrian crossing, they have right of way. This is a clear and scary example of why pedestrians have right of way and why drivers need to be more aware. My gosh! So glad you are safe! Wonderful dog you have there, what a great team you two make!

18 years ago, I was studying software engineering at University (Canada) there wasn’t much girl. But there was a girl student who was completely blind … all her book was translated for her and school pay another student to be her colleague for any lab work. The person was her hand basically and read what the compiler crunch as messages…she had a phenomenal memory “oh look at line 49, i forgot a this command”. She did her final internship at the government…she probably end up permanently there. At her last year, her guide dog died (quite old) and for the first time I saw her less confident but she didn’t gave up. I spoke to her twice during 4 years and at the graduation ceremony, students were separated to the rest audience and it was so loud …i offer to guide her . By my voice, she recognized me immediately and she call me by my name. I was stunned…But her courage is above and beyond!

Thank you so much, I will definitely keep sharing because it inspires me to inspire you all. And I understand your fears, but I love my life so very much. Through my blindness, I have gained the most incredible beautiful vision, far beyond what eyes could ever dream of seeing. It’s all about your perspective, and never losing hope. Many blessings :-)

Arabella is so smart and I’m so thankful you have her to help you. You’re a legend duo. I am seeing impaired but I still have sight. I have very poor depth perception and I am very light sensitive. I wish I had those goggles that allow you to experience different types of blindness. It would be absolutely scary but it would be valuable to learn.

30:28 *Joy* : "What happen?".. "Let's go", "Let's go !" *Arabella* : 😱 Both so courageous. You are my heroes. (Come to think of it, Arabella protected Joy by stopping ❤️ Such a good girl, well educated)

I love this channel I’ve always been so curious of how people who are blind live their daily lives. I wish that was just a singular job helping people who are blind shop because I would love to do that describe everything to you.

I'm just finding you and I think it's so cool how you do let being blind put you down. I'm partially deaf and sometimes I let it get me down

I love how sassy Labs are. Haha sometimes it looks like she looks at you to see if she will get a treat haha stay safe Joy! It sucks when in the videos you are close to people and they dont even try helping you. But grateful you find the nice people that offer

I always enjoy your videos. They are so happy and up beat and amazing to see how a blind person copes with every day life. We take so much for granted..something to think about Joy, is when you go for small stuff, snacks etc. A back pack would be alot of help to you and hands free...this question is just for my information, when you are walking it looks like you are walking fairly fast.

This lady was so much politer than the people at the airports there is no reason that you should be rude to ANYONE

You did such a great job describing the outside while you were walking. The sky was the most beautiful bright blue with fluffy white clouds scattered across. The tress were at their fullest and just the brightest green. So much green around you with bushes and grass and trees. Im wondering if you live in Oregon because you said you are in the Pacific Northwest. Amanda did a pretty good job helping you at the store but wished she had let you know more of what was happening around you. Glad you are safe after what happened at the intersection!

Thank you, thanks for the description and the confirmation that I described it pretty well pretty accurate :-). And yes, we actually live in Camas Vancouver Washington area, we used to live in Portland five years ago. Anyways, Amanda did great, however you’re right, it would’ve been more helpful to have more feedback, but I can’t expect everyone to know how to help me best if they never helped anyone Blind before. I thought she did great for her first time. Anyways, thanks for commenting, really hope to hear from you again. Many blessings :-)
