Yes it is legal in most grappling tourneys. Just cant obstruct the eyes or put hands in mouth. Vagner Rocha and team use it all the time in big comps. They call it the python i think.

Come on, elite grapplers getting belts is kinda meaningless. Not their fault, but BJJ needs to be like judo- black just means solid technical base after maybe three years of steady training. No more “blue belt world champ”, especially when person has been blue for years. Wasn’t his fault, but Jackson Sousa campaigned at brown belt, winning multiple absolutes, for years and years.

I disagree. Being a black belt in 3 years is severe watering down and marketing in my eyes. I definitely feel the difference in belts when rolling in BJJ. They are far from meaningless. Also, as you said they are elite grapplers. BJJ is a segment of grappling and it should have it's own grades. People can be elite in other areas that complement their BJJ game.

Yes. 2 competition belts and an added endorsement for those at the top belt who are qualified to coach. This gives newcomers some way to recognize good instruction but solves a lot of the other silliness.

That's not how the judo black belt works in much of the world. In my country to get your brown and black, you need to compete and win by ippon against a certain number of brown and black belts within a year, if the time runs out before the year you have to start over. That's even more serious than how most bjj people get their belts!
