Peggy’s older stuff speaks to me more, he talked more about racial issues and being black and the struggles that come with it. After the Kanye shit he kinda lost his ability to be able to talk about nazi hating ever again without being a hypocrite. A lot of his fans are suburban white kids, it feels like the music he makes isn’t even aimed at me anymore. That’s why communist slowjams is my favorite project by him
@Normalcognitivedave5 ай бұрын

JPEG to me is the most pure form of the 90s hip hop artists evolved for the 2010s and 2020s. His music is innovative authentic and true to himself and his experiences, and has shit to say, all while feeling like it has a fuck the system type energy
@Normalcognitivedave5 ай бұрын
I know that level of storytelling is exactly what 90s hip hop had to offer. But jpeg somehow goes even beyond this by simultaneously breaking barriers, changing conventions, and having unique beats that compliment his internal chaos.

I love Jpegmafia’s music, and Earl sweatshirt’s music. Funny enough, IGOR got me into some experimental and more crazy sounding music. Yeezus as well, New slaves and On Sight got me fully into experimental crazy sounding explosive music.

Im a HUGE fan of Earl these days. He was one of those rappers I could never get into, and one day it just clicked. I feel like understanding some rap songs opened a whole new world for me when it comes to hiphop and other experimental music.
@JohnMae-r1qАй бұрын
@@Normalcognitivedave FR, Some Rap Songs feels like a whole new world of music once you get a acquainted taste of that type of music, I remember listening to Earl for the first time and was weirded out by the chill flow he has. Once I started listening to him more I realized that I liked that flow. And the production is beautiful, it’s short and beautiful, it’s like the aftermath of IDLSIDGO, since SRS has the same topic of depression. And it wraps up earl’s depression with the bittersweet track Riot! Cause it’s more of a lighter and happier song out of SRS and IDLSIDGO. All in all Earl is definitely one of my favorite artists to listen to. Also as I am going through earls catalog, I noticed Huey is mentioned in the first song of IDLSIDGO and the last song of SRS samples Hugh (which im guessing is Huey) i don’t know if it was intentional but it’s a pretty cool Easter egg, since Thats like one of the last depressing albums we have gotten from Earl recently. Vior Dire was more of a lighthearted album, which has as excellent wordplay from Earl, bro is literally a walking dictionary and a book with metaphors.

Peggy's music is timeless because it doesn't fit in right now. It can't age bad if it never aged "good". He isn't following the trends of the time and that is what makes albums timeless. That's why the highest rated albums where often innovators. TPAB with a highly ambitious concept album, Madvillainy with it's cartoonish nature and jazzy beats not even having hooks etc.
@Normalcognitivedave5 ай бұрын
@@datlamahorn true! However tons of great albums fit in but they just do it BETTER. TPAB i could argue is the PERFECT jazz rap album. Whereas Peggy’s music still doesn’t belong in its own category. But also look at whole lotta red, not the best or most timeless and it didn’t fit in at first. Lots of angles to take
@datlamahorn5 ай бұрын
@@Normalcognitivedave An album definetly doesn't have to be completly different/innovative. TPAB also wasn't really sonically innovative. A good example of an album not being particulary innovative, but just doing it the best is Illmatic. I just meant that an album has to stand out in some way and that is either made through perfecting what was already there or being innovative. And that Peggy's albums can't really age poorly because they don't follow current trends that could make it have aged bad in the future.
@Normalcognitivedave5 ай бұрын
@@datlamahorn you should check out my other videos 😅 i talked about kendrick’s work and illmatic! @datlamahorn5 ай бұрын
@@Normalcognitivedave Yeah you're right. I could make an album that is different from the rest and it would be ass. It's more that an experimental album that people like when it's released probably won't age bad.

I really don’t think veteran or amhacb are really that strange. I don’t get it when people say that. What’s so hard to grasp about it? There’s melodies, hard raps, the beats can get pretty weird but they still have song structure and lyrics that are usually either relatable or comedic A lot of that stuff isn’t even that dark, when you said you don’t listen to the earlier stuff (I’m assuming you’re talking about these albums) because it’s too dark it made me wonder if you’ve really heard it Maybe it’s because of my background growing listening to death grips, bjork and aphex twin but I just feel like whenever an artist barely goes outside of what is “normal” and demands the most minimal effort for the listener to allow themselves to be uncomfortable at first so that they can grow to understand and love it, most people just don’t want to do it. They get weirded out and blame the artist And it really sucks
@Normalcognitivedave5 ай бұрын
funnily enough I've been on both sides of this debate 😅. I'm definitely talking about all of his discography, but as I've grown to love more left field music some songs off veteran specifically are still the hardest to digest. Real N's sample is very jarring and goes against what most people will handle. I think most people find it more distracting and unpleasant, even if tucked away there are raps and song structure. Same with Rock n Roll is Dead, the ASMR is definitely a creative idea that has not really been used in the mainstream but it's because it's hard to bop to, especially when wearing headphones... Whenever I hear music I'm looking for creativity, boundary breaking, and good writing. However, ultimately it all has to sound good to me. And I'm sure that's how people, who aren't nerds like us, enjoy music. But hey, I'm not blaming jpegmafia for anything! I commended his experimentation and influence. In fact, the whole video is about how much I love his music but my introduction to him was shaky because I hadn't unlocked that part of my brain yet.

important info to consider: chf was also unorganized, peggy emailed chf asking for the stems as early as july 2017, but since chf ghosted him peggy turned over to tori nicks (the girl chanting the hook) via twitter DMs. shes the one who approved of peggy's recreation, & in which peggy approved to pay back chf for his concept (which he did). also keep in mind after veteran dropped, chf only responded then to peggy, dismissively admitting "i dont have the stems but thx". imo chf shouldve dealt with it earlier if he didnt wanna put himself in this situation coming out of the woodwork, think of it how u want but i 100% understand why peggy feels this way now.
