I think what's most fascinating is how far mechanical engineering for speedcubing has become. Designing all of these adjustable features and making them accessible to any new speedcuber certainly isn't easy.
@felimonerguiza75123 жыл бұрын
... or intuitive and easy. I'm an RS3M 2020 cuber, and I didn't get to experience the hassle of gluing magnets in place. Many people complained about the cube's weak magnets, and I think that was the point. They're designed to be weak so that you can strengthen them without glues.

Thank China and their manufacturing wizardry. If this was made 15 years ago in an American factory, they’d be hundreds and hundreds of dollars, no exaggeration. If Gan, moyu, etc. didn’t exist and it was an American factory, I would expect something like a Gan 13 to be $500 dollars minimum. It’s been happening with tons of products. A good example off the top of my head is ultrasonic cleaners. For decades, if you wanted to buy a small one, there was only one American company that made them. The price was around $1500 to $2000 dollars for one. After Alibaba, you could immediately get one of equal quality straight from the Chinese factory for less than $100 bucks. The best example is watches. There are a few models of the Rolex Submariner which you can get a counterfeit of from a Chinese website. The counterfeit is absolutely indistinguishable from genuine down to every last detail of all the complex internals. They even grow the exact same rubies that Rolex uses. Like it’s so perfectly copied that even a high level expert can’t tell them apart. It’s a big problem in the resell market. Nobody wants to buy them because there’s literally no way to know for sure if it’s genuine. These models used to resell for around $18k and now they go for like 14k which is an all time low. The counterfeit is $600. Genuine is 14-15 thousand. Again, they’re the exact same watch. Same everything. For all intents and purposes, it may as well be genuine because nobody will ever possibly know it’s not. This is how good Chinese manufacturing is.

@felimonerguiza75123 жыл бұрын
Matte is often described as "not glossy/shiny" look of the cube. But it can also refer to its texture, which is rough as if the cube has grains of sand on its surface. Since they tend to become glossy over time, I think it's meant to indicate that you have a new/unused cube... like those seals that show you that your mayonnaise bottle wasn't opened yet.
