I'm stunned. I think it's his phaser. What a blast from the past.

This first appeared on the 1978 Burnt Lips album. In my opinion, one of his finest.

Whoa, man! Melody, rhythm, a bass line, a feel of percussion...one dude...one guitar. Blows my mind.

I had the good fortune of meeting him. He recorded one of my boyfriend’s songs. What a guy. What a sense of humor. ❤

Great, thanks for sharing this - I've been waiting to see this performed live for ages. I had a teaser through Stropes' advert but the full length versions are never aired unless you are a paying student.

I saw him use a phaser years and years ago. He called it the "nauseator".

He was younger here and plays with the more edgy sound of his early career. I saw him last summer and he has a much mellower sound on the same great compositions.

I've seen him twice in concert, but neither time did he play this song. It's good to see that he does perform this live, as I think it is one of his better songs. The pick attack of the recorded version seems to get lost here.

On the studio version he was still using fingerpicks. A severe case of tendonitis made him quit using picks and he had to adopt the classical-style right-hand technique.

Kottke's much better now than he was then.

i think it contains several different melody to feed with irregular rhythm and using different levels of sounds. i think this piece must be searched or thought much in academical level. There is an almost orchestral quality with only one guitar.

Is he using a pedal or something? Why is sound so different?
