a very unexpected opening match. To be honest, I thought Japan would beat Finland in 3 straight sets, but that changed when Finland started to take the lead. in the second and third sets. My heart couldn't stop throughout the fifth set. It was extraordinary that there were so many surprises from foreign teams, such as Belgium, which was able to make things difficult for Poland

Same here I was so nervous!!!! I wished they won 3-0. But in hindsight, of course all teams are giving their best to be an Olympic qualifier. Such great volleyball being played here! ❤💕

It's crazy to me how Japan did so well in the first 2 sets and then it all came apart in sets 3 and 4... not used to seeing Japan this defeated! Hope they regain their confidence for the upcoming matches as they fully deserve their Olympic ticket.

Japan is the highest-seeded Asian team in the FIVB Ranking probably Iran will not be able to advance from group A so based on the rules applicable to the selection of teams from the Fivb ranking Japan will represent Asia at these Olympics(if, like Iran, it does not advance in these qualifying rounds)

Takahashi's performance saved today's Japan. However Everyone or everyteam have good days and bad days. When it comes to very important tournaments held in their home country, especially Japanese athletes sometimes lose their performance in any sports due to unconscious nervousness. Anyway Japan won today's full set match, so they should be able to improve their condition from now on. I hope that today's nervous victory will have a positive effect on Japan.

This match stressed me a lot,..i thought Japan will lose that game.. they started the first two sets excellently but the offense and defense of Finland were perfect in the 3rd and 4th set even in the 5th...I hope in the next games all japanese players will be playing excellently. Yuki and Kento are a bit off today .. it is good that Ran, yuji and yamauchi managed to win their first game..🎉❤😊

It is always tricky to play against a team you have no idea about or never played against. The Finnish must've done their homework and knew the styles of play of Ishikawa, Nishida, Ran and the middle blockers. Japan did a great job of coming back stronger in the 5th set.

this is my first time seeing Finland and even though they lost, this game says a lot about their potential. they almost took out the vnl bronze medalists. I am super excited for their future

Let me start with analyzing this match. First, if you think about it, the reason why Coach Blaine didn't sub Kento Miyaura out was because Coach wants Miyaura to gain even more international exposure. When was the last time Japan plays Finland? NEVER. This is their first meet. So it's nice to play against different players. If you think about it, Japan always play powerhouses like USA, Brazil, Poland, Italy, etc. Never would you play against teams like Finland. Second, mistakes are bound to happen in volleyball. This match could very well have been an upset for Japan had Finland won. Upsets and sports in general happens all the time. And players do have bad days as you can tell in this match, Yuki was very off. Yuki Ishikawa could have closed out the match in the 3rd set, but he hit out. That's perfectly fine. He was doing high risk, high reward as he was looking for fingers when hitting out. Japan always keep their composure and never feel nervous at situations because you can tell they trust each other. That's one of the best quality you can have in a team, is TEAM CHEMISTRY and TRUST. When you trust that your players can pass a good ball and your setter can get your the ball accurately to the area that you like to hit, you are golden. Sekita and Ryu (the new young setter) are great. The Japan's bench are so diverse and deep that you KNOW every one of them can deliver a phenomenal performance if Coach Blaine gives them a chance to be on the court even if it's just to serve or play backrow. This roster most likely will be the final roster for Paris Oympics 2024 (Maybe a few players change, but this may pretty much be the final). Lets continue to cheer and root for Team Japan as they move through the Olympics Qualifications tournament. Win or lose, you know they will do their best and lets all hope they will qualify.

You thought they would just let them be defeated because they’re having a bad day. LOL!!! This qualification event is very crucial and they need to win all the matches against 7 teams. There’s no point of giving a pass because there’s no more final round. Every win-loss set is very important for a tie break in case of same wins.

Dang those last 2 sets were really unnecessary for Japan. They played unbelievable in the first 2 sets. Yuki was struggling a bit. Finland made some adjustments for sure. Great playing on both sides🙏🏼🤙🏼💪🏼

Yuji and Ran hard carried this match. Ran was phenomenal on every aspect and yuji was also performing very good. Yuki played worse than his average imo and also I wish yuji had a few more time instead of miyaura on last 3 sets. He subbed in and scored at the most critic moment.

序盤本当に絶好調で何やっても 全部決まる！って感じだったから このままストレートで勝つかと思った！ だけど、バレーボールって 何があるかわかんないね。 ちょっとのきっかけで ガラッと流れが変わる！ 今日はブザーミスがあったり、 カメラの線が切れて中断になったりと、 選手の皆様もなかなか気持ちを維持することが難しい場面もあったけど、 無事勝つことができてよかったです 😊 両チームの選手の皆さん、 お疲れ様でした！！ 素晴らしい試合をありがとうございます！！

批判的なコメントが多くてとても残念です。 自分も強豪校のセッター経験してましたが、初戦って本当に難しいです。 普通に格下に負けて予選上がれない事もありました。それだけ初戦って難しい試合です。気合い入りすぎて力んだり、いつものリラックスしていい感覚でプレーが出来なかったり。頭の中に一つ？があるだけで狂うものだと思います。練習とは違い石川選手も本戦で感覚を取り戻し調整できる選手だと思います。まだ初戦。明日以降の試合も私達はパリに連れてってくれるように応援するののみです！

I felt the pressure with the japan team. It would be a shame for them if they lose to finland hasn't been qualified for an olympic and hasn't played in vnl. Japan relaxed for a bit thought they could finish the game in 3sets but the stuation changed. Good job for finland for giving these vnl bronze medalist japan a crazy pressure! Japan surely learned a lesson here. Anyway congrats japan!!!!!

I never thought Japan would beat finland in 3-0 given the fact that finnish are taller compared to Japan (since in volleyball, height is an advantage). I do expect that Japan would showcase their skills to combat taller opponents which they do. Hopefully, Yuki will come back stronger in the next games.

石川選手、元々腰痛持ちでカナダ戦くらいまでまともに練習出来てなかったらしいので、やっぱり調子がなかなか上がらないですね… しかし控えにしまっておいても試合勘が鈍りそうだしブランも頭を抱えてるだろうな。 リベロも調子悪そうだが、きっと山本選手は調整してくれるだろう！ この先石川がちゃんと調子上がってくれないと、今予選厳しいものになるる…
