I went to Louisiana at end of January beginning of February 2020 and it was BEAUTIFUL!!! Perfect weather too! I hope to go back again. As a California person who was born and raised in the Silicon Valley, Bay Area, I LOVED the hospitality from everyone. So polite and respectful. That’s missing from the big city areas like where I’m from. Even if I’m from a more country like location many of the kids today do not have respect like those in the south.

JP, I live in North Carolina and any day in the winter that it warms up, we have honey bees show up everywhere and in the summer every day, they love my Pepsi cans. I have 5 acres and I don't think they are on my land. Mostly woods around, so I think they are in a tree, but all we have are big pines. Any way of getting an idea of where they are coming from? Ever tried to follow a bee??
@JPthebeeman8 жыл бұрын
Jonathan W great question, research "bee-lining." There's different ways of doing it but in a nutshell you coat a small number of bees with flower or something similar & follow them back to their hive. This is much easier done in rural areas then in residential settings due to residentials having fences, etc... they even sell small bee-lining kits at most of the major bee supply warehouses such as Mann Lake & Dadant, etc... Let me know if you discover anything, incidentally, I have observed quite a few honey bee colonies living inside of pine trees.

Because you are so gentle with the girls when you vacuum you are slow and methodical and well Schawee we he is rough with the girlfriends and that was why they stung him to remind him they are girls who need to be treated gently. So glad Schawee and yourself though where able to remove these colonies away from the chemical plant that is no safe place to live . I can’t even believe they would build housing that close to a chemical plant . Thank you and you stay safe .

@JPthebeeman8 жыл бұрын
Lorral333 hey my lady, wondering when you were going to make an entrance ☺ I've had time lately to put some videos together as I'm healing up from carpal/cubital tunnel surgery. Getting better every day, Dr. says I'm a fast healer, must be all the honey I eat & a lil bee venom mixed in for good measure. Happy New Year to you & yours!
@lorral3338 жыл бұрын
Hey JP: I understand that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome hurts. A friend of mine and her daughter had it. They said that repetitious movements cause it. I'm glad that you are healing really good though. I ate my first taste of outdoor honey today and chewed some wax and it was good. I moved in with two friends of mine on Nov 1st and they kept bees, until she said that they just up and disappeared on them and hear in Va. the chem trails killed them all off. I rarely ever see a bee now and as much as they are not my favorite insect, it's sad that so many have been killed off. I pray that your New Year is a blessed one as well!

Thank you for yet another wonderful and informative video! What a crushing sight, though, to see that the colony was at one time sprayed. I noticed you "re-used" the combs with the colony - is there no concern about pesticide residue in those combs?

estreya don't know if you noticed but I added a little snippet mentioning that a previous colony located in that exact spot was likely sprayed but that this colony appeared to be very healthy.

Hi JP, Is the old comb of the hive you collected any indicator of the success or failure of your the hive in it's new home? Thanks,
@JPthebeeman8 жыл бұрын
PerthPete1 great question, never been asked that before. Basically the answer would be no but with that said, I try not to transfer much old comb as it's accumulated a lot of whatever it's been exposed to all those years & after many hatch cycles cells tend to accumulate lots of cocoons which at some point the bees stop using, as those cells become so shallow they are virtually good for nothing. Old comb that bees are not using can be very attractive to small hive beetles as well.

Hey! Question - you mentioned that the hive had been sprayed. Why were you keeping the comb and what not? I was under the impression that sprayed hives weren't salvageable. Thanks!
@JPthebeeman8 жыл бұрын
BillHamidFan69 I wasn't certain if this particular colony had been sprayed or one that had occupied the exact same area previously. Most people who spray colonies use something from Home Depot, etc.. these products almost always have little to no residual to speak of & may initially kill a handful of bees but in actuality do very little to disturb the colony or its contents.
@RSB7038 жыл бұрын
Makes sense! Thanks!

A Great video JP, let me ask you about the little bit of wax that you leave and honey , I here that the bees smell that and a different set of bees will make a new nest . do you spray it with something that will stop them from coming back?, and as I said in one of your videos back, that I am in Florida right now but I will be coming back to my place and I would like to start up a little hobby farm of bees , I would like to get with you in a little while about three or fore mouths from now and buy some bee supply's from you if don't mind . I live close to Roberts , out from Hammond, a real nice place for some bees I think. thanks and take care and have a happy new year. Thanks rusty.

natserog just enough to get them off the combs, usually 1/2 closed. If you vacuum a swarm, less. Each vac is hand made so there will be subtle differences from vac to vac.

thanks! I know a few that have the colorado vac that close off completely. they say they get a lot less bee kills. Thanks for sharing

The warmer the weather, the less they tend to cling to the combs, another reason why I prefer not to use a vac on late season cut outs.
