Graffiti Bridge - An Abandoned Road That Is The NEW Graffiti Hwy

With some help from a viewer and doing some digging on google maps, I decided to check out a stretch of Abandoned road. Not knowing any history behind it, a local was more than willing to share his knowledge about it. It was also very evident that the bridge is starting to take shape as it's own Graffiti road. This bridge reminds me of the big concrete one connecting Pittston and West Pittston by us. Except I don't see the concrete at the top disintegrating like the one in Pittston has happening. Every time I go over that bridge I wanna get across as quickly as possible. FYI: The pronunciation of the name would be ON-TEL-AWNEE.

Lake Ontelaunee West Shore Drive. I am very familiar with this bridge, as it is one of my fishing spots. The bridge has been closed longer than what the guy in the video had said. The bridge was closed due to it not passing inspection and being structurally deficient almost 20 years ago. The factory on the other side of the lake is the Lehigh Cement Company. There is also a stone arch bridge that is submerged underwater and can be seen when the lake level drops as well as the stone foundations to the houses that were demolished when the dam was built and the farm land flooded.

A local policeman actually private messaged me who patrols there and said it's been closed around 12yrs... either way, its a nice location.

Nothing can take the place of Graffiti Highway although this was pretty close. I love old bridges like this one. I don’t condone tagging, but some of the artwork was really good. Looking down the bridge with all the colors was pretty. Hopefully they can keep the ATV’s off so they don’t have bury it in dirt also!! 🥴. Thanks for the walk!! 💖💖💖

Great bridge, interesting design. Nice quiet location. Just as you said some knuckleheads deem it necessary to deface disused/abandoned locations/items. I'll never will understand why. Now this is just beautiful. I think that type of bridge was called open spandrel Arch. Obviously because it's open and not solid walls. We have a really small bridge that looks just like that but it's only about a quarter of the size here in CT. I'm surprised that bridge was open and so recently, most of those were replaced in the 70s. They're usually too narrow for modern traffic, couldn't support the weight of modern trucks, and just didn't last all that long. Those are usually famous for the sides of the roadway rotting out and crumbling down which that one is doing. That steel plate you mentioned that was ripped up it's pretty much common on those throughout the years in attempt to repair them. Such a cool find, there's still a few of them out there, just not as many around this part of the country.

I love this bridge and the surrounding area, it's absolutely beautiful and so surine. Right along where your friend was walking, through the trees and next to the shore line, that would be an awesome place to take your family and have a picnic in the Summer. Take the kiddos out there and let them run off some of that well stock piled energy (lol). Giving the circumstances that we're facing in the world right now, that's the ideal place to be. Very nice bridge, too bad for the graffiti. Think the price of spray paint shoud go up to 8.00 more a can, see where these kids will get there money from. Although the Rose was very artistic. When I was a kid never thought of doing things like that. We would of been nailed. Nice North Shore Dr road, good for dog walking, don't have to worry about traffic. Think the dogs love it too. I always wondered how the people that think it's ok to spray paint things they don't own being public or private property? If someone decided that they were so good they found homes of other artists and paint their car, house, dog, cat so on and so on. To share their art with them. They won't think it's so cool then!

Also the dam bridge/road was closed previously, but since has been re-opened. On MT Penn if one hikes thru the woods, one can find the sanitarium...there are some weird Berks secrets

@@JPVideos81 I've not been to it since 1988. We rode offroad motorcycles to get to it. Mostly only the foundation and some walls remained, but it is enormous. Probably took about 15 minutes by motorcycle from the road to get to it...walking/hiking probably about 45 min. I myself am trying to remember how to get to it...no longer any roads of anykind

Ok i found out after a few hours of researching, it was called Centennial Springs Hotel. During the Tuberculosis issue 100 years ago it was converted to a asylums for lack of better words. The roads are long gone and don't know if i could ever find it again. I was mistaken, it's Neversink Mt not Mt Penn. Both are a stones throw from each other

My brother worked with the surveying company that worked on the Pa Tunnel II , he borrowed my camera and took some pictures of it in the process of being built when he took our father and possibly my other 2 brothers with, I got double prints of course due to I had other pictures on the roll that were mine, I have them somewhere hidden I believe 😉 They also printed tee shirts which I bought one for the commemoration 😊😎... Beautiful bridge by the way and thanks for showing us cause they don't make them like that anymore.
