What’s smart about poisoning yourself? Than they lock up the dealers and the addicted still doesn’t stop, what’s smart about being surrounded by people whacked out because they can’t deal with life normally, I’ve never done drugs and I bust my ass while people who don’t work hard in the physical sense make millions

It was while she was in Angelfish bend (before Garbage). I concluded that from the context. Completely unrelated to the industry milking the artists.
@benger885 жыл бұрын
She said she and her Angelfish bandmates "together" spent all of that £100,000 record advance on partying. So £25,000 per member. If they stayed in nice hotels, that in itself takes up a good chunk of money, especially if they splurged on room service. In rock & roll terms, what they spent isn't excessive. If she alone was spending that much on drugs, it would show and I doubt she would have been asked to front Garbage or even allowed an audition.

@benwyatt76193 жыл бұрын
She was in a band called Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, which blew all their money on drugs in 1992. The record label dropped the band but they believed in Shirley so they kept her. So, to circumvent this Shirley formed a new band called Angelfish, with her as the lead singer, and the rest of her original band mates behind her (also only Shirley appears on the album artwork / promotional artwork). They made a music video for a song called ‘Suffocate Me’ which played once on MTV’s 120 minutes. Steve Marker from Garbage always taped MTV and saw Angelfish’s video when looking back over the tape, he liked the song, and Garbage were looking for a female lead. So, they tracked her down and hired her.
