To be fair, if you aren't a fan of metal music generally you kind of have to get used to the music in the game before you can really appreciate it. I don't listen to metal normally and barely noticed it to begin with, then over time came to realize the skill that went into it and how awesome it is on its own as well as paired with the gameplay.

Seriously though, I think what Hugo says makes sense on a certain level: it's cartoonish violence, and even though 9 is too young IMO, I remember being 10, and all my friends played grand theft auto. Sure it wasn't as detailed, but they found the gore hilarious. So I wouldn't be shocked by parents letting their 12-14yo play this, because it's all in good fun. In an interview with Noclip he also said that he "might" have let his kid play Doom 2016 and that it "might" be a recurring disagreement in his marriage.

Except the music does suck ass. Original doom had 8-bit versions of Metallica and Pantera songs, now its poser trash. First thing I'll do is mute it and run my DOOM playlist full of 80's thrash. It literally doubles the quality of gameplay immediately. Next time you're stuck on a level, mute the soundtrack and play Kill 'Em All, Show No Mercy or Agent Orange over the gameplay instead and you'll start wrecking demons left and right.

I mean Hugo keeps saying over and over that the boss guy you face off against (I believe it's called the "Marauder") is on par in terms of lethality and skill with the Doom Slayer. So why not just have a 1v1 mode where those 2 square off old school death match style. Could even make the players swap characters between rounds so both have to know how to use each character. And if the Marauders arsenal just isn't good enough or whatever then buff him up a bit or make a new demon specifically for that. Or just have two Doom Guys face each other and one is possessed by a demon or it's a simulation he uses for training. I'm no game designer but it's not like it would be Impossible to make a unique 1v1 mode in the same vein as the 2v1 mode they already have.
