The purpose of your life is no different than any other living thing: to further the species. Humans are not unique or special in this aspect. Humans are unique when it comes to the magnitude of the effect one individual can have on the species.....which stems with the way we go about it. The only way for all life other than humans to accomplish this is by spreading their genetic information and letting natural selection (and luck) determine which genes are strong enough to go on. I'm so sorry for your loss. And I'm sorry for your pain and grief. I too have lost family and I know how hard that can be. I'm going to try and explain what has worked for me and I hope in some small way it finds you and brings you some peace. I understand life as a gift of lessons. Some lessons are easy and some are more difficult than we think we will ever understand. When I think about pain and suffering I truly believe those are greatest lessons to learn from. Each lesson is different individually. When we lose someone we miss them but we also get a chance to strengthen our love to them. It's easy to love someone you can see and touch every day. But when they leave us it's harder but if we lean into our love. they never leave us the love becomes stronger and we are even more strongly connected. God will talk to you but it's a relationship you have to keep working at. He loves and see your pain he wants you to feel loved and to give love. Try having little conversations with him about anything anytime and you'll feel close to the great creator. Hang in there I know it's been hard for you but you deserve happiness. Get in touch with nature appreciate everything even hard stuff I call them opportunities. Many blessings I'm proud of you.

Noble Vagabond - First time I tried mushrooms me and some friends went to a mountain and picked 1000 and then brewed them and made tea with the water. The purpose of life is to worship the only deity Allah. The very reason you and I exist is to submit to Allah. Remember this, the worldly life is nothing but a delusion, a false lie to mankind. The materialistic things that the world has to offer will never bring you contement and happiness. Example, if you have a new phone, at first you are filled with joy and happiness. But later as time goes on the phone is not as valued as you first got it. Then you buy a new phone and the same scenario happens. Over time you buy a bunch of phones and you get bored. This principle can be applied for the reason you fall in love again and again. This is mainly because the heart is not satisfied with anything you have to offer it except for the remembrance of Allah. God has manufactured our heart to become satisfied nothing other than the remembrance of him. If you don't believe me, listen to the recitation of the quran on KZbin.

In my opinion the purposes of life are: On a biological level to reproduce. (Not everyone can or may want to and that is quite alright due to our current global population) On a social level I feel our purpose is to exist in symbiosis with nature and strive to make living as easy as possible for our species with minimal detriment to the environment and other species. And lastly personal purposes are varied from individual to individual and the individual could feel they have one personal purpose or many many personal purposes.

In islam, the true religion, death is not the end of life. But it is just a transit and we are transferred into the life hereafter. Life in this world is short. May be 100 years or so. But all of us will be resurrected to live forever in the life hereafter. We will be questioned about our deeds in this life and then will enter into the Paradise or hell depending upon how we spend our time in this worldly life. To live happily ever after, our creator the most loving, the most gracious and the most merciful did not leave us alone but send 24,00,000 prophets to guide us to the right path. The question is why do we have to follow a certain path. The answer is we did not come to this world on our own. We were created. We did not chose our gender, our parents or siblings. We could have been an animal. Even being a human being is not our choice. So the one who created us is the owner of our souls and He wants His recognition and His obedience. Everything around us has a defined purpose. Isn't it so?. So how is it possible that the most sophisticated machinery is born without a purpose or is left behind to chose his own purpose.
