I just want to say, I followed your video, on my 2023 RWD and it was flawless. Thank you so much for finding that cable. Hardest part was removing the first panel, I didn't have pryng tools and was not sure where the clips were. The 2 at the top were really hard to unclip I thought I would break something . But the rest was easy enough. Be careful with the other red wire they are very similar. Something I want to add is, it is easier to remove the bottom floor trim starting from the back. Pulling up and once all 3 clips ate loose just pull towards you, no need to bend it. Again super happy with the result. Thanks for the detailed steps.

Thank you for this video. I followed your steps successfully. I should have made the end of it like 2-3 cm longer before I tightened everything up and put it back together but it still works ok. I was not able to remove the camera housing but the install still looks pretty clean imo. Thanks again for this walkthru. I'm glad the Model 3 is easier than the Model Y... I would have been so pissed trying to figure out which red wire to use!!

Of all the threads and pictures I looked at to figure out the wires and wiring this is the ONLY video i found that actually worked. Thank you. Subbed and Liked. Funny thing though whatever wire i tapped into on my 2023 MYP the radar detector turns on immediately as i open any door and shuts off the second i shut the door when i get out. Works great. Hey bud I'm turning 62 in a few days. Call it a birthday present to myself. I was a computer tech and car enthusiast my entire life. Your video is dead on for a Tesla model 3. The only thing I would suggest is the wire you had a hard time describing was tomato soup color for me and don't mess with the sandpaper and use a star washer. I was terrified dropping the cabin cam housing. I did have a bit of difficulty and watched that segment of the video a few times. I have subscribed with notification on. @@moneyglitch6621 I just placed the radar detector at the top of the windshield on the left side of the rear view mirror using the suction cup that came with the radar detector. It looks super clean. Way better than putting it on a mount underneath the rear view mirror like the Blendmount.

Just used this video on the model 3 Highland. Wiring is slightly different and those red wires no longer seem to supply power. However the red and white wire that runs in the thick wiring loom under the right hand door sill works perfectly.

I subsequent found out that this was the seat cooler. I did how ever find a wire (I think it was red) up in the footwell - when watching your video at 7:52m it's left and up in a big block of wires going into a connector- used a multimeter - it powers up when the door opens and screen turns on, so I think it's connected with the screen. Anyway I've been using it for a couple of months now and no issues.

This is great information Jeremiah! I got through all of the steps on my new 2024 M3P but can only get 3 volts when I test the wire even if someone is sitting in the driver seat with the break tapped. Have you (or anyone else) tried this on the 2024 M3P with success? I'm so close!

Worth it on a lease? I'm so conditioned to needing my radar in every car at this point however this is my first lease and i just don't want to hear anything or get charged some wild fee at the end for something small like this. Do you think its something they'll be looking at after my term?

Little late but I don’t think so to be honest. I have a lease as well and am concerned they will find spliced wires that have been tapped into after giving it back. Not to mention having to take all the trim apart again to get the wire back out when it’s time to return the car. On top of possibly damaging a wire during installation scares me, teslas of all cars probably have the most wires being all electric. God forbid you damage a wire and have to get it repaired, that’ll cost you. All in all this just seems like more of a hassle than anything. Wish you could just tap into a plug in the mirror housing and be done with it

Quick question on the voltage. I have a 2023 MYP, you mentioned your meter reading 15 volts. Any idea if the detector will be damaged at all by receiving more than 12-13 volts on a regular basis? I have the R7 as well. I’ve read about people putting some kind of voltage regulator inline. Others have said it is better to tap into the cigarette lighter style socket in the armrest. Opinion?

Im hearing the cigarette lighter is a better approach to prevent against potential future software updates which might impact use of the red wire.

I tried tapping mirror power on my 2018 M3P and that did not work, but tapped interior lights and that worked great, but for my 2021 M3P they changed the wiring harness much smaller gauge wires. The process in this video worked great and took a couple hours.

I just did a fuse tap to wire one in on my 911 and it was super easy. I might try that on the Tesla though it’s no longer the go fast vehicle and my wife hates the beeping ;-).
