Here's a suggestion: evolved Kakuna. Since Weedle couldn't beat the game I'd be interested to see if Kakuna could beat it. You'd have to evolve it from Weedle so it has Poison Sting to make it theoretically possible to beat the game, so it wouldn't count towards the overall standings, but I'd like to see if the minimal stat boost and Harden makes the game beatable.

Harden is coded as a lv 1 move for Kakuna, so you straight up can't get it on one you evolved yourself without tradebacks. Also the stat boosts are a very mixed bag: you do have basically double the physical bulk and 50% more special bulk, but both your Attack and Speed go down by a third which just exacerbate your terrible damage output issues.

It's a glitch, wild surf spawns on the borders of towns don't have their own encounter data so it just uses the encounter data from the last location the player was in. I'd love to pretend it's just a neat little detail as a bird perching by the water makes thematic sense but I first discovered this after flying from the power plant to cinnabar and encountering a Voltorb which makes slightly less sense lol

@1:40 One more neat bug about burn in generation 1 (and paralyze too), if the opponent is burned and you use a stat effecting move on either yourself or the opponent, the burn attack drop gets applied again. So if you Tail Whip a burned Geodude it would also half their attack again. This comes into play mostly in Ubers where doing something like using Barrier or getting a Psychic special drop against a paralyzed Mewtwo is a good way to make it slower than pretty much anything, since it results in its speed being 1/16th its base value. It's kind of like the inverse of the glitch where using moves like Sharpen and Agility will completely negate the burn attack drop and paralyze speed drop respectively on the Pokemone that uses them. So if you ran into some contrived scenario like two paralyzed Zapdos both using Agility, the one that goes first will end the turn with halved speed and the one that goes second will end with 2x speed.

I was waiting for you to do Vulpix. I'm really surprised at how bad it does but to me this also confirms how broken Double Team + Badge Boost Glitch really is. When I did this exact challenge, I beat the Champion around Level 64. 26 Levels of difference if you use Double Team and abuse the Badge Boost Glitch, that's really crazy.
