I am Greek and I very much know how stubborn we can be but OMG. I don’t know what was in that woman’s mind... she had an amazing voice with huge capacities and abilities! An exceptional musical instrument. And she deliberately provoked her own disaster! And I can see that while I am not a musical expert or gave great knowledge of soprano voices... but I am capable of understanding that you have to treat your voice like a diamond and of course let it mature via treating it with the right roles at the right times! That woman made Abigaille her main character!!! Callas said that is a role-wrecker ! And she was singing Abigaille and Lady Macbeth and Norma from such a young age. Nooo. It is sad! We could have her for very much longer periods

Christian ... It's very unfortunate what she (Elena Souliotis and conductors) did to accelerate her vocal-decline, but she did sound magnificent in those roles. I would have liked to have heard her sing IL Trovatore ! [ It's too late for Anna Netrebko to be "beware". ]

What promise and what stupidity. Why are some singers so foolish to attempt this type of role so early in their career? It's somewhat ironic that the end of Souliotis' voice also marked the end of a long line of great opera singers - most of today's "stars" would not have cut it in the golden age! (roughly 1930's to 1970's)

Her technique is not precise, she is sliding upwards to notes and sacrificing diction at the expense of drama. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Arnold Amaral :: Callas also had "vocal issues". It never stopped her from these roles. I'm not supporting singers risking their voices for these dramatic characters but Elena Souliotis did have a great instrument for someone so young !
@awokwok10292 жыл бұрын
@@cliffgaither Maria Callas definitely had dramatic quality by NATURE lol. She sang dramatic roles more than anyone. Tebaldi has the most beautiful instrument and her voice is solid and more developed than Souliotis.

@@awokwok1029 :: I was minding my own business for the past 7months & you show up, throwing Tebaldi into the comments (😊). Now, if I comment on Tebaldi, you may come after me ! I respect your decision as a fan of Tebaldi's voice. Many people, including singers, have made the comment about the beauty of her voice ; I, unfortunately, can't hear it ; not only that ... her singing has always been boring ; her voice, not particularly distinguishable. Elena Souliotis --- Please ! (Dude ? / Girl-friend ?) Tebaldi should not be mentioned in the same breath w / Souliotis ! Souliotis' voice "underdeveloped" ? If her voice had been anymore developed, she would have been two, separate people. Her voice was a magnificent instrument ! The power of her voice was rare ( even for an opera singer ) in someone so young. Conductors / House-Managers / Agents ... took great advantage of her ... before she was ready. She over-used her gift ; she was young & listened to people who should have respected her voice ; should have respected her as a fellow artist. She eventually became a mezzo-soprano which kinda contradicts the underdeveloped theory of her voice. Nature has been extremely generous w / the Gift of Singing ( not just _w /_ operA-singers ) ... but especially _w /_ operA-singers ... but when Souliotis' name came up on the list of people to be born --- who would be an operA-singer ... Nature fired-up a joint & inhaled deeply ... when She exhaled ... Elena Souliotis was born in the smoke _w /_ a voice that will never be forgotten !

@@cliffgaither that's your problem if you can hear the beauty of Tebaldi's voice lol. One thing for sure, you have BAD TASTE. And Souliotis voice is developed? Lol her Lady Macbeth, her Gioconda, her Nabucco here you can compare with CALLAS. Her low register is ugly duckling, and people who consider her as Mezzo are kinda stupid 😂😂same goes with people talk about Callas being a coloratura. Not a fan of Tebaldi, yes her singing is kinda boring but she has great and beautiful instrument and again her voice is more solid and more developed Souliotis. I don't find Souliotis's voice is more exciting, so Tebaldi and Souliotis are very boring...

@@awokwok1029 ● It's beautiful weather here ... very sunny & breeze 😎 ! I'm not gonna let you upset me 😊 ! I think, I was was very respectful of your admiration of Tebaldi's voice. You wrote that I have "BAD TASTE". Well ... for your information -- smarty-pants -- _Taste_ is subjective. It is just someone's opinion. My opinion is just a solid as yours. I will concede, Souliotis needed more time & maybe more studying before singing those heavy-duty roles. Her lower-register ; again, just my opinion, were impressive. One thing is certain, Tebaldi never went anywhere near those dramatic characters. Callas' voice had some _ugly_ moments ... throughout her range. She was well-known for her _coloratura_ technique, but you seem to think :: she was _not_ a coloratura singer. Do you realize the sacrilege you just committed by writing that about Callas ? Why can you have your opinions, but I'm a jive-ass, no-nothing. You hurt my feelings 😔 ! Anyway, we are both lucky to have discovered this great art-form ( many people don't care for it ). We are also lucky enough that there are enough singers to go round for all of us ... even those of us w / BAD TASTE 😜 !
