Trails conspiracy theory: Nayuta is McBurn. No, I will not be taking questions. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Definitely should come back to Monochrome Mobius, it’s an emotion packed story, it just takes it’s time

In anticipation of Monochrome Mobius I spent August finishing the Utawarerumono trilogy and have to say it’s probably in top 3 of best stories I’ve ever played. Unfortunately won’t be able to immediately get into Mobius as Nayuta is releasing right after and that’s the priority for me as it’s one of my all time favorite games and I’m really looking forward playing on large screen and going through it with a fine toothed comb to look for even more connections to the main series than I saw on first play through. If I get time in between Uta and Nayuta maybe I’ll play Rhapsody to refresh my memory for the sequels.

I didn't get to much JRPGS this month until Sea of Stars. (I did a good chunk of gaming, as I play a wide variety, so I tried Atlas Fallen and am deep into Everspace 2.) I still have to finish my ff16 platinum (which needs a second playthrough). I'm enjoying Sea of Stars, and am about three hours into it. September plans will have me play more Sea of Stars, at the very least. Maybe the Fate/Remnant game. Still have my Legend of Dragoon/Chained Echoes/Octopath 2 games to finish.

Still starting many games. Excited for rhapsody to come in, also playing thru sea of stars, ryza 2, Caligula effect 1, and way too many more jrpgs

I almost went and bought all Rhapsody games for Switch after your last video, I've seen so many people talk positively about it and it is something I really want to pick up. But I'm sticking with what I have till October, Crymachina is one of my highlights left for me for this year and I can't wait to dive in. In August I finished Octopath Traveler II which I've been slowly chipping away at since launch; such a great experience can't recommend it enough. At the end of the month I've been getting back into Rune Factory 5 which has been on my backlog since late last year.

I may be absolutely batshit for all things utawarerumono but even I have to say that while not bad in any ways, monochrome mobius would be quite a middle of the pack game if it wasn't for all the preestablished lore and sentimental attachment I have for the world after the original Utawarerumono and the mask games

August was going to be the month of Breath of Fire III, but I got a surprise addition to my collection: A PlayStation 5! I marathoned through Astro's Playroom in just a handful of days in the glow of new console hype, and later got distracted by one of my favorite Game Boy Color games, the Pokemon Trading Card Game video game, showing up on Nintendo Switch Online. I also started the PSone version of Rhapsody A Musical Adventure in my upcoming excitement for it's sequels, and finally brought it around to refocus on Breath of Fire, which I hope to have completed this month.

Congrats on the PS5! I’m sure you’ll play more of it when something you like comes out (that’s how it was for me). Sounds like a fun month! :))

I haven't played Monochrome Mobius yet, but I do want to at some point. I have played the Uta games, and I imagine you will get much more out of it if you have played them, as I definitely know the main character and some of the side characters from those games.

That’s good to know, that might have been part of my experience then. Hope you get to play Mobius sometime! :)

Boundless Trails does interest me very much. I have not played a trails game and honestly I do not have the time to commit to a 10 game series especially since I didn’t even know that Trails existed until just a few years ago and my backlog is just too much with other games. So a Trails game that is stand alone certainly gets my interest and I look forward to playing it some day.

I have been playing a lot of visual novels (The two Robotics Notes, Steins Gate and Chaos Child). I also I have been playing Fairy Fencer F Refrain Chord, but a little disappointed that its basically the same story for a third time even if the combat is different. I have started Sea of Stars which is so far enjoyable (except for those damned ants). The Legend of Nayuta is ordered and Monochrome Mobius is a definite at some point. I am a big Fate fan so definitely want to get to that as well.

I finished the main story of Trails into Reverie, just need to complete the True Reverie Corridor but I got burnt out after binging ToCSIV so I could play it lol. After that I finished up The Legend of Dragoon and I am now trying to find something to play until Nayuta comes out.

This is more for others since I think you already do this, but if you have to pass up on a game because a different interests you more, put the said game on a list so that you can buy it when things calm down again.

I’ve been focusing on Final Fantasy XVI. It’s been awhile since there was a game that I just want to keep playing all day if I could. It’s probably the best FF game in 2 decades (Not counting remake and remasters) I don’t remember if you played it or not.

There be a nonzero number of conspiracy theories as to whether Nayuta is actually standalone...but hey for the most part not really something that needs to be worried about.

I think this might be the first time I've heard that a game disappointed you. Lol. Anyway, ever since FF16, I've tried out Samurai Warriors 5, Dynasty Warriors 9, I am Setsuna, and Lost Sphear thanks to PS Plus Extra... and they all bored me quickly. I forced myself to put approximately 3.5 hours into Sea of Stars, and it's beyond me how it reviewed so well. It literally has nothing going for it outside of somewhat rewarding exploration, a minor twist to the turn-based combat, and potentially interesting worldbuilding. Having played the Octopath Traveler 2 and Live a Live Remake demos, it felt like a downgrade in almost every aspect. I understand it's a small studio though, so I can't really expect too much. Thankfully, I've Like a Dragon Gaiden to look forward to, so hopefully it doesn't disappoint. I wish Ever Crisis was on PlayStation, but maybe I'll cave in and try it out on PC briefly. With TGS around the corner, hopefully we all get some cool stuff to look forward to!

oh shit, its that time of the month. This won't be as long because I spent alot more time on a smaller list of games. For the entirety of August(and the later half of July) I spent playing Among Us in an achievement group chat where we're cheesing the achievements. The game has 361 achievements so its quite the task. Its basically in the same genre as Among Us where you gotta deceive the other people in the lobby or finding out who's lying, but it has more role depth and less map busywork. I'm still playing it while I type this but I've got all but 2 achievements, however even after I'm done I'm gonna continue helping out the most frequent people in the sessions I've been in to get them up to 100% too. The game I've been playing when I'm not playing with them but I'm at home is Pixel Puzzles Ultimate, which is a jigsaw puzzle game that currently has 2617 achievements(2591 when I started playing). currently I've spent 61 hours on the game and got 89 of the achievements and the puzzle that has had the most pieces that I've done so far was something like 600, but I've unlocked a puzzle thats 1410 pieces(haven't tried it, still doing the easier ones). I played more Metal Unit, which I went over last time but I got burnt out this month so I moved onto another game on my Steam Deck on my breaks at work. I started playing DuckTales Remastered on my Steam Deck at work... I don't gotta explain DuckTales, do I? I think that pretty much covers it. there's always a few games that I picked up for like an hour or two and then put down that I don't feel like listing.

Have you ever been swayed to a game, or away, from the combat? Has a combat system ever been so good that you've played through a game despite a mediocre story or characters? And has combat ever been so bad that you've dropped a game despite your interest in the story or characters?
@JRPGJungle Жыл бұрын
MONARK comes to mind for something I was swayed away from! It's not that the combat was bad, more than it became really repetitive over so many hours, so I couldn't bring myself to get its true ending as I was just over it lol it's an interesting question, combat is very important! Ideally games should have a good marriage of combat and good story I think; if one is mediocre you definitely feel it :3 I wish I had more examples, but hope that answers your question! Would love to hear if you've experienced the same thing :)
@finnhaverkamp Жыл бұрын
@@JRPGJungle Oh for sure, for me. I have pretty high demands of RPGs. It needs to hit the mark on combat, character, and story, or I'll lose interest. Combat is pretty often a deal killer for me. The most notable example is Pokemon. Loved them as a kid. Played through Blue and Silver, but that was it for a while. I tried getting back into it with Black because it's an entirely new roster of Pokemon, but man, I can't hack the combat. For one thing, I super dislike random battles. At least with Pokemon, it makes sense since you need to be surprised by what you're fighting, but they could have something amorphous moving around, or grass swaying where Pokemon lay, so you know it's coming or could play a little game of avoiding battles if you want. But then the combat itself is just so stilted and you're constantly interrupted. Like, when a battle starts, first it takes a few seconds, which it shouldn't, then you have weather affects, and equipment and your Pokemon are holding, and whatever else. And once you start attacking, you might be hit by poison, which interrupts or consecutive attacks that interrupt. Or if you switch out a Pokemon, you lose a whole turn and effectively almost a minute of your life. It's honestly exhausting.

One piece odyssey and survival horror games for me. Liking one piece but the pacing is terrible! Think it's gonna be a long game. Rhapsody collection on switch arrived yesterday but that's straight on the backlog. Have the trilogy now on switch. I cancelled monochrome as I heard its better to of played the other two first as you'll get much more out of it. Didn't even realise it was the same series 😂
