I got both because dbrand said the killswitch case wouldn't ship to me for months (wound up being way quicker) and I wanted something to use in the meantime mainly just for a better grip on the damn thing. I have a friend that also has a steamdeck so I figured I'd give him whichever one I wound up liking less. They arrived LITERALLY the same day, rofl. No shipping notification or anything, just dbrand going "hey your package we said wouldn't be available for Q3 of the year is delivered." Ultimately I think they're both pretty dang close in quality, one is not a straight upgrade, they're more side grades to each other. It comes down to what you're gonna use the case for. The killswitch comes with a skin so if you factor that in the price is mostly a wash, this narrative that the jsaux is "way" cheaper just isn't REALLY true. The jsaux you could potentially strap an external battery bank to the back of your steamdeck with that weird rubber strap thing. I tried that and found it to be kind of impractical. The steamdeck itself is already heavy, makes more sense to me to just put the battery bank next to you somewhere and connect it normally. BUT if you're really into that idea, the jsaux is a no-brainer. I didn't get the version of the case with the fan, so I can't comment on that, but that also seems like a bit much to me. I like to keep things simple and not have a bunch of accessories or added weight. But if you do, by all means get the jsaux, it's a good case. I personally kept the killswitch and gave my friend the jsaux because it's noticeably more secure and feels more premium. The textured grip part is grippier, the kickstand is more substantial and solid, the protective cover is thicker and locks in WAY tighter, and the buttons are recessed so the thing won't accidentally turn on it a backpack or something. Also I think it's nice that the cover doesn't have some company's name or any branding on it. To me it just looks a lot nicer. So ultimately I think it's a competition between JUST a no-frills case with noticeably more premium build quality and a more secure protective cover or a not as premium case, but more features/accessories.

Yeah but he also didn't mention that the $80 case includes a $20 skin for your steam deck. I honestly will probably go with dbrand just so i don't have to order a skin from them and a case from jsaux.

@@ufcfan3940 @UFC Fan For $40 I got a case, a hardshell cover, an extra cooling fan and a battery/ssd holder that are both detachable from my case. Also gave me a charging cable for the fan because it has a built in battery. For $40 thats crazy good.

@@casuallycompetitivecwiss9321 yes the cooling fan is worth it! I thinik the DBrand one might work better for sweaty hands. But the JSAUX one has a tiny grippy texture that might help. I cant answer that very good sadly. I bet if I dumped water on it one would let it run off one might let it run off but stick as well, sticking bing the dbrand one. The rubber is more porous and less smooth feeling on the DBrand one.

Apples to apples it's actually closer to the $30 mod case kit, because there's no cooler option via Dbrand. Dbrand: Case, skin, kick stand, and cover $75 Jsaux: Case, accessory strap, kickstand, and cover $30 It's an extra $15 to purchase a similar accessory strap from Dbrand on top of the $75. Main thing you miss via the Jsaux is the skin pieces covering the exposed front (parts not already covered by the case), it is not a full body skin in the Dbrand kit.

They seem like they wanna make money while improving the faults of the steamdeck while making experience better. Like the m.2 dock. Or the modcase or the cooler fan. The clear case. Or even having their own type c hub manufactured to make ir better. Meanwhile dbrand takes the cad files. Designs a case around it. Puts no development effort into it. And recalls it for because the steamdeck cant function eith it. Forces you to buy expensive vinly paper with their case. That tears off the first time you remove the case. Ans you are forced to buy again. At their inflated prices.

Yeah I agree. I use the JSAUX one over the DBrand one. The dock cover is for the official steam dock from valve. I show it in another video. I think JSAUX has been doing great! Thanks for the comment and keep on decking!

The Dbrand Killswitch V2 with protective travel cover is way nicer than the Jsaux in my opinion I have tried both kept the dbrand and it had nothing to do with the box. And the dbrand comes with the adapter that makes it fit the official Steam Deck Dock to each there own.

Take off the cost of a skin from dbrand and you basically have two identically priced kits that both include a kick stand and a travel protector. Personally I'm going to go Killswitch because it comes with the skin and the kick stand has built in sd card holders.

@@EndLess1UP Totally and when you factor in the cost of a skin it makes the difference in cost very minimal. Honestly my plan (fingers crossed) is to have 4 SD cards. One for Linux games, one with Windows 10, one with android 13, and the final one would just be for ROMS and any additional Linux games that won't fit on the first SD. That way this thing can cover everything from Angry Birds to MW2 to Ty the Tasmanian Tiger.

@dillpicklewes50 Don't wanna necro but this total nonsense. Do you even know what you're talking about? The dbrand is more than 3(!) times the price. The skins can't be excluded and in the kit are only the parts not covered by the Killswitch (so not the full covering skins!). The Kickstand is total trash (usabale only in one positioni, nearly worthless). For the exact price of the dbrnad travel kit you get a full 20000 mAh powerbank on top from Jsaux, incl. the strap to fit it on the backplate, wich would cost additional 15$ on the dbrand kit. What are you referring to?

If I would have compared actual street prices, it would make dbrand 4(!) times higher, as they’re selling exclusively via their homepage, so taxes have to be added, while JS sells also via Amazon incl taxes. The added „skin“ within dbrand‘s essential / travel kit is a simple 5$ plastic, that’s only on the visible parts. I am a huge fan of dbrands marketing, I find it hilarious. I have a dbrand phone case and screen protector, and both are very nice (although screen protector is pretty hard to get on due to how form fitting it is), but after seeing so many people rocking the jsaux, and watching this video, I think I’m going to go jsaux, it’s cheaper and more modular.

Thanks for the video. Was there any residue left behind when you took the skin off? Also, would the dbrand skins look right with the jsaux case? I will say, the ridges on the DBrand case do have an engineering purpose I think and that is that it increases the protective strength of the case. If something heavy were to lay flat on the SD the ridges would prevent compression of the case better than just the flat case. You see ribbing like this for structural integrity in a lot of design from cars to cans.

I would. The only downside is that the power button isn't covered. Someone mentioned that and I kind of agree. But unless it's being pressed or roughed up I bet it's fine.

No, you are not biased! You are making a comparison review and have clearly made a logical choice. I like the DBrand, BUT, why do we need fancy cardboard boxes and this marketing swag for product packaging; like we're buying perfume or cologne or a PS5... I am sure that adds to the production cost. I don't see the need for all the matte black artsy packaging, and like you, I don't feel the need to keep the box after I open it and pop it on. People, we are just buying a cover- just a protective cover ! ! ! A piece of plastic. Also, DBrand got greedy on the tempered glass cover, which is another extra $20 to shell out that pushes the price with the travel kit to nearly $100 ($94.90). And for all that $$$ you are not getting a dock or a fan, or any other electronic component, just a case with stickers. For $100, they should have at least thrown in the glass cover. Jsaux looks to be a better choice. Dbrand seems a bit too cosmetic for the price.

I want to point out a big mistake about this case . I hope someone can see what i wrote to jsaux and warn the ppl about this bad case. So here is the problem . I installed the modular case and the upper/front cover. And i put my (with the installed modular case) steam deck into my back pack. As you can see on picture the power button and the volume buttons are cutted out on the upper /front cover. And in my backpack because the power button is cutted out the steam deck turned on. When i taked my steam deck out from my back pack it was super hot. Because the ventilation hole is not cutted out from the upper/ front and its blocking the outgoing air. This can lead to overheat and burn down the steam deck. This should be fixed because is an expesive device and i dont think i can validate my steam deck by valve if it will burn down like this.

You should bring this up to them via email as I agree that can be dangerous. I think they will fix it. They have a discord and they might check these comments but that seems serious and you should ping them on Twitter or discord and just let them know your experience and that maybe adding vents or a cut out or removing the raised power button. Many options to help elevate this. Good luck and good catch and comment. Wish the steam deck had a lock out switch that wouldn't allow you to turn it on.
