Starting my 2023 soybean harvest but decided to use my old combine. The field wasn’t great, so might as well use the combine that is equally not as great!

Awesome to see you running the old forgotten machines! Some might think your too cheap to buy newer and some might think your just running the old stuff for the views on KZbin! I think your a genius. Fix up the old machines and make them reliable to perform without making you time broke or money broke, that way you don’t have payments eating into your profits! I'm a retired logger, I know nothing about farming. I do like watching farming channels like millennial farmer and the brown family. Funny to see the differences between new monster combines and old "junk" Nice to see the old junk making some money and not have to send 1/2 the profit from the field to the bank as a payment. I spent years rebuilding old logging junk, machines that were built in the 70's and 80's, nothing to have 30-40,000 hours on the frames, Pretty easy to drop $200K into a machine when the cost to replace is $1.5 Million and the new ones really don't have much over the old.

Excellent video JT :) think strange to my late dad & his brother had 1968 624 A International PTO broken down and John Deere not sure number of Handmill but ran of PTO but both damage because of frozen pick cobs of corn damage both plus seize up bearings in 1993 year! So hand make chop feed for home farm plus one rent one for 200 head of cows plus calfs ! So waited for get parts on tractor PTO and Handmill and use 3 men torn in 1968 McCormick- International 105C combine gas motor funny part made chop feed from grain head only we did not have corn head at all ! Then I found my one work boss at farm had Same model of John Deere Handmill but belt drive so we bought and brought home farm use old 1950 Cockshutt COOP 40 tractor belt driver on make chop feed for 3 months ! Fix up old John Deere handmill when parts in and 1968 International tractor on spare time ! My dad and his brother ask paid for John Deere handmill one my boss sold me and told ! They said did super and sold with home farm in 1997 and paid me too money I spend for them ! Both them told year's later when left farm in person I always had creative ideas always!

Nothing wrong with using the old stuff. I don’t know if you watch Oliver66farmboy but I know he has mentioned thet he can make money by using old stuff on small acres and not having piles of debt in machinery. I imagine you are probably in the same boat. Love the old stuff, I work on newer Deere equipment now but I would mich rather farm with the old stuff as long as parts stay available

I watch his channel as well. He is right on track. The old tractors are paid off after a season with money in my pocket besides.

Combines like women, if you have two they’ll try to out do each other to get your attention. Only have one it’ll only do when it feels like it ! 6600 out in the cold and rain got the message! Better get her 💩together! 😂

It also occurred to me that depending on how many acres you farm, it may not be feasible to run new equipment without either a huge investment upfront buying outright or ungodly amounts of monthly payments to rent equipment! I have heard that it’s not profitable to run a smaller farming operation with todays prices for machinery and fuel and maintenance! You sir found the loophole to that problem!

Indeed I have 😉. I believe I have less invested in all 7 tractors and 2 combines than a used 9660 combine would cost me

I wish I had a dollar for every hour I have spent considering that subject. Meanwhile, the old equipment continues to get the job done.

My IH 1440 has those screens with a cover plate over them… it also came with a long finger chaffer. I think it was what Gleaner would have called a “Corn Plus”. In other words, a combine “optimized” for shelling corn. “Corn and Soybean Special” combines didn’t come with those screens that I know of.

The younger brother to the John Deere 55 combine. I did not see any wore out sheet metal , don't know how much was carrying over you didn't show the ground. That may be a good machine. Maybe it needs to be under a roof. I've run a 45 and 95 John Deere combines.

Sheet metal wise it’s in great condition. The original owner let a lot go on it that I’ve been piecing back over the years. Never hurts to have a spare
