Hey JT ,Personally I would have put a nice flat bed on it. Complete with tool boxes underneath the bed, chain racks , headache rack, and short side boards made out of bull wagon deck boards. They can double as 4 wheeler loadings ramps. Thanks for Sharing. 😊

I vote for the replace also... 33 years ago I had an 86 short bed with 9 inches of total lift and 38 inch super swampers and a 300 horse 350 BUT shortly after I got married and sold my baby, sure wish I would have NEVER gotten rid of the truck!!!

I would probably lean towards the bed side unless you want to come back and fix it again in 5 years. It’s a sharp old truck, and they are worth a bunch of money nowadays. It’s your money and your truck, do what you want, I will watch the video. Thanks for the videos.

Owned a couple lifted trucks. I don't care for them anymore. Only thing I kept from my youth is a 1980 Sierra Classic short box fleet side 2x4. I don't drive it much at all.

Just do the corner of the bed go ahead and do frame and other stuff you have a great old truck that looks really good and you probably have it mechanically sound it's a dream truck of mine I drive a 2015 2500hd would trade it for yours in about a NY second and it doesn't have but around 65000 miles on it I have owned or drive every flavor of truck made it's just an option but it ain't for show so enjoy the drive friend

You know, a farmer should have a multitude of Vise Grips ! Maybe like a half dozen or more! This would have save the multiple trips up and down from the back of the truck! 😎 One can never have too many tool's. Lol Just an old farmer here.

Good work. I figured you might be an auto body tech as to how easily you painted the MF. I’m a “do it once” type of person so I wouldn’t bite the bullet and put the bedside on, but you have skills I don’t. Good luck and I look forward to following the progress.

I'd just repair the one on it. I've bought three jeep windshield frames and six front fenders. The quality sucked. Looked good once prep'd and painted but still lots of issues. I pulled my box to replace the fuel pump. After wards the darn truck still wouldn't start!:( At 3:30 in the AM it hit me that I didn't hook up the ground strap!:) By 4:00 AM it was running!:) I've just finished rebuilding the box on my 64 F100. Hundreds of spot welds and miles of welding in rotted steel. Fix the small area!:)

Speaking from experience, a new chinesium side is going to be a lot worse than fixing the original metal. That said, if you can find a used rust free side, I would choose that route. Just my opinion but the new fenders I got for mine don't line up worth a crap and are thinner than tin foil. Any way you go, she's a nice truck and worth the investment! Thanks for posting videos for us.
@jtsbarnngrill6873

A used one would be ideal! The kung fu metal is less than ideal, and I usually have to fix a few dents in it right from the box.

I would say put a box side on it,as you know it bolts on except 2" on each side by the tail gate.I worked at a GM dealership in that era and know that they like to rust,so yeah if it was me i,d bite the bullet and invest in a box side,,if the rest of the truck is in good shape go for it.thats my 2 cent's worth.

Nice truck JT. You did a nice job fixing the tops of the wheel wells so am sure you have the skill to fix that last bit of rust.....but how much longer would it take to just put the new side on the box? I think you mentioned it was a bit spendy which surprises me as there are a lot of those trucks around and guys restoring them now.

The bedside probably would be faster, and then I know it’s all new. LMC has them in the 900 ish dollar range. I think that’s gonna be the best route.

Hey, JT... Got an "oldish" Chevy, that MIGHT have the parts you are looking for. Cheap, and Easy....Huh... dam... that Sounds like my Ex wife......😁 Truck, was the Same color, and trim as yours... NOT nearly as nice as Yours though... I've got a 78', Cheyenne, Long Bed, that's been sitting in the pecker-brush for a day, or two, that would make you a really nice Project... 😁 I'll check this weekend, to see if it's worth a darn... IT MIGHT have the bed, and bed-side you need... If it's ok, I'll let you know here... If, It's not worth a damn, I'll let you know... You know how old tin is...

Hey, Sorry. apparently nothing good comes from Pennsyltucky. looks like the road salt finally took it's toll on the bedsides, too. the bed was in decent shape, when I parked it a couple years ago, but not so much anymore. It was worth a look anyway, found that pair of cheaters I, "lost", right where I left them, on the dash...LOL. I wondered where those went...
