The hardship of orthodox Jews having dialogue with non orthdox Jews is that we don't have common underlying assumptions regarding the most basic questions. How can you discuss religious matters with someone who doesn't believe that Torah comes from heaven? Also, over time, the orthodox believe, there will not remain non orthodox Jews. They know that everyone besides them intermarries and slowly assimilate into the cultures of the countries they live in. So... why have dialogue with groups that will not be around in two hundred years?

Are those reasons to not communicate with other Jews? It's probably a better reason to communicate with them openly.
