Exactly. Context is key. If he were to do this at the Met in a full production it probably wouldn't go very well for him, especially not acts 3 and 4, where the orchestration is at its thickest. But just the aria out of context at a concert? Not a problem, just use your own voice and not the voice you think the role needs.
