This is an outstanding lesson, Juan. Thank you. I have been struggling with my chord melody/solo jazz more interesting. I think this is the path forward. ❤

Great discussion, Juan. The first concept of thinking about what can stay the same is so true (💡)! So well articulated (as usual)👍😄.

Hi, what guitar is that? Sounds like a nylon string.

@@JuanDhashi, Thank you for the response. I tried watching your other video regarding your gear and tone. But unless I missed it somehow, I wanted to know how you have an acoustic (nearly nylon string) sound on this particular video? Thank you in advance. I also have a godin acoustic/electric and your tone and sustain on the Kiesel in this video sounds better. Thanks again.

@@MinhPham-ly7yp My sound has changed a bunch since this video! In hindsight, I should probably do an updated tone video as I've pared down the rig. In essence, I blend the amp sound (mic'd with a 57) and the acoustic sound (these days, I'm using a Behringer CB100 mic. In this particular video, I'm using the mic on my Zoom recorder for acoustic/room sound). Sustain on the Kiesel likely comes from pushing the amp a bit and having a fairly high action. Hope this helps!

What confuses me is you start by telling us we will move the inner voicings (makes sense). Then in your first example, you literally left the middle voicing stationary and moved the two outer voicings.

Tip number 1 was related to common tones

I also generally use the common tone as a starting point for this discussion with students, as most I've worked with struggle visualising the inner voice to begin with. Thinking of the common tone at least gets them thinking about where that is, before considering how to create movement. Hope this clarifies some things as to why I went through the video the way I did!
