Great vid Juan, I'm setting up my Unraid server at the moment, I've got 15 hours before my 14TB Parity drive is done and I could use some more videos! I've watched several Unraid videos on KZbin and the way you present the information is the most pleasing, clean video with focus, and you're easy to follow. Another reason why I prefer this video is how recent it is, a lot of the other Unraid videos are years old.

If anyone runs into the issue where the server directly boots into the BIOS after changing the boot device, you need to check the files on the flash drive. There will be a file name " EFI- ", remove the " - " and try booting again. I'm completely new to servers and this is a great video tutorial, thank you so much

The what is unRAID stuff was helpful too. Maybe add a 2-minute blurb about how unRAID is different/same from other solutions (Synology/QNAP vs TrueNAS/unRAID) and maybe a quick pros/cons slide for unRAID

At the 1:40 second mark, it was clear that I would NOT buy UNRAID for $89, and use FREENAS instead, thanks for the clarification of this as I must have missed it in other videos.! . Plus, I would in the next 12-months have to "upgrade" my licence to $199, that is not going to happen considering the cost of storage (in the last few years), that could buy me another 12 GB.!!!

great tutorial! I just have a question tho, how big the ssd cache should be? I was thinking to get 1tb but you said 250gb for the cache in this vid, right? so does anyone have a recommended size for the cache? Ill start my unraid with 6tb parity and 6tb storage for the time being.

It depends on what you are going to be running from it. Also. How much data you would be transferring daily before the data is transferred from the cache to the pool.

What are the requirements for RAID 5 with parity drive? Can you have 3 drives with one also being parity or does the parity drive have to be dedicated?

Question, why does unraid not give me an ip for the server when I have all 3 ethernet ports (1 says management, I'm new to this so I dont know the difference) plugged in. Only time it did was when I assigned it manually in the setup, but I couldn't access it from a pc.... would a pci card for 10G interfere with the onboard NICs (chenbro NR12000, intel board)

+JuanMTech, i've just installed unRaid following this video. Is it possible to unmount the parity disk (xfs) and read it attaching to an other computer (not NAS)? Thank you.
@Slickpic873 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong on the details but I believe the answer is no. It could be possible with a data drive with Linux but the parity drive contains placeholder data. It doesn’t copy the files 1:1. This is why you can have a system that has 2 parity drives for 23 data drives. Basically, the parity drives contain what bit goes where and when you have a failed drive, the parity can calculate what bits are missing. It will emulate a drive until you replace it.

I need some Unraid direction. I am new to unraid, just days actually. I was able to get unraid up and running. I then created 2 folders for Media, 1 for photos and 1 for videos. I then setup Plex, downloaded some movies and after some tinkering was able to view the videos via Plex. During this time we had a thunderstorm go through the area and knocked out power. I am now unable to find the folders that have the videos and photos. I only have a few in each and want to add more. When I restarted my systems I could no longer see the folders. No matter what I try I cannot find them. Can someone PLEASE point me in a direction to locate my missing folders? TYIA!!

How is this better than TrueNAS Core or TrueNAS Scale which is free? Is the licence fee one time for life and you get all the new versions or is the license just for that version and will need to pay for every new version. So if I pay for v6.9 will I have to pay for v7
