I read this years ago and remember liking it and not finding it particularly shocking. I also read American Pastoral more recently and watched the miniseries The Plot Against America, both were really good.

I think my favorite of his is The Human Stain, but I might be missing out for not reading his later novels.

My first Phillip Roth book just so happens to be Indignation which I thought it was good and interesting the complaint I had was the ending felt a little disjointed it just happened abruptly and it jumped the timeline by however many years but other than that I found it an enjoyable read, I’ll definitely give his other works a go as I do own Exit Ghost so that will be my next one most likely

"Indignation" is good. The Roth character is in college in Ohio. As usual he is uptight about his Jewishness. He falls in love with a Gentile, but is insecure and blows it. This is closer to Good to "Goodbye Columbus" than an old age book. "Portnoy Complaint" is a good book, but Alexander Portnoy is so unlikeable. In all 3 of these books he is very insecure about his Jewishness, wealth, and who he is. It makes me wonder if all these characters are just Roth.
