I couldn’t agree more. He reminds me so much of my own dad, though the latter still had some of the ex-Marine officer vibes which never went away. Come to think of it, they both remind me of my heroes Paul Farmer and a professor at my med school. The default should be love. Doesn’t mean you don’t stop monsters or reign in cruelty and harmful apathy (see also, most of the world deciding to plug their ears and scream “lalala” about COVID), but that we can get a lot farther on those issues if a majority of people would choose empathy and compassion.

@Pope_of_the_Church_of_Tea2 жыл бұрын
@@sren7383 You mistake being saddened by apathy-driven cruelty for a lack of empathy towards the people who are being cruel - though I know some are genuinely unaware of it. If utterly trivial inconveniences are too much to ask in order for you or anyone else to help protect innocent and vulnerable people, then I’m not the one in this situation lacking empathy. I don’t dislike the people who are being cruel via apathy, but their actions sadden me because I care about the people being harmed. I don’t dislike you either, in case there’s any doubt as you read this. It is possible to feel love towards someone while disagreeing with them, and even while being saddened or even angered by what they choose to do. These are not mutually exclusive. If you aren’t familiar with the science but care about understanding, I’m happy to recommend some epidemiologists and medical researchers. If you’re unfamiliar with the idea of structural violence but understand the moral necessity of exhibiting true compassion towards people you don’t know personally, I encourage you to read some of Paul Farmer’s writing. He’s very eloquent, intelligent, and compassionate, and was discussing these issues for decades before COVID ever happened. The modern world is defined by the banal evil which results from us psychologically fictitiously distancing ourselves from the consequences of our actions, and it’s the scale and collective nature of those consequences which makes apathetic cruelty all too easy a trap to fall into. Edit: sorry, I missed an important word.

Since they're all being interviewed right in front of each other, once the first person said they were ignorant to answer, they all just followed by example. You can see kind of the same thing happening when the 2nd University of Maryland student said "I go to Maryland too" in order to try and get extra browny points. To be honest, I think even if you're ignorant about the topic, you can still hold a soft opinion while stating areas of the topic that you don't know about. The fact that some of them may have just been following each other's opinion makes me lose confidence.

Kindhearted, honest, real disciple. I have met people like him in my church, but seeing this type of person in an unexpected context like this, really shows me how that attitude can be translated into general, somewhat secular situations. Honestly it increased my faith, seeing how he made everyone feel accepted and only saying words of love. And recognizing how “swiping” people in a way dehumanizes them. (I have seen similar videos, but never seen someone acknowledge that before, although I’ve thought it.) I want to be like this, no matter the situation, respect
