Holy shit, I don't run into many that also have Defenders as their 1, right on brutha. I'm busy as hell at the moment, listening to your lists while I'm painting. So I'll just run through my top six. 6. Screaming for Vengeance. If you notice, other than 1 and 6, being similar vibe/style, 1 through 5 are peaks of different styles for them. 5. Sad wings 4. Stained class 3. Painkiller 2. British steel 1. Defenders

Solid ranking! My ranking: 1. Painkiller 2. Sad Wings of Destiny 3. British Steel 4. Defenders of the Faith 5. Stained Class 6. The Killing Machine 7. Screaming for Vengeance 8. Firepower 9. Angel of Retribution 10. Redeemer of Souls 11. Sin after Sin 12. Turbo 13. Point of Entry 14. Ram it Down 15. Rocka Rolla 16. Nostradamus 17. Juggulator 18. Demolition As a comment to my ranking I would add that I would rank Defenders higher if it had a better production. That is my major issue with that album. The songs are epic from beginning to end. The same can be said about Ram it Down. If I am not mistaken they even used a drum machine on that album, which is a total let down if that's true. The songs on Ram it down are, however, uneven. Some are outstanding, like the title track and Blood Red Skies, while others are a bit cheesy. Turbo has received a lot of hate, but I think it's a quite solid album. Just like for you, it was the first album I heard (on cassette) and I remember that I loved it back in the eighties. Priest sounded like most of the bands that were popular around that time, such as Europe, Dokken, Ratt, etc. When it comes to Ripper Owens I have never cared for the studio albums he was on. Like you said, they didn't sound like Priest, but more like a band who tries too hard to fit into a new musical landscape. The live album from 1998 with Ripper is, on the other hand, in my opinion their second best live album (after Unleashed in the East). The opening track Rapid Fire is even better than it was on British Steel. Ripper's vocals are also top notch and he was a good replacement for Rob. The newer albums (from Angel of Retribution and on) are all great except from Nostradamus. I think Priest has managed to develop their sound, but at the same time kept the unique Priest sound, which I think both old fans and newer fans appreciate. Thanks for the review! 👍👍

Great ranking! Yeah, in the ‘80s they started using electronic drums, which was more common then.
@excelsiormusicreviews
@excelsiormusicreviews Жыл бұрын
I read that a lot of Ram It Down used an electronic drum machine because of Dave Holland’s health problems and you can hear some songs that sound like real drums and some sound artificial. He got replaced by Scott Travis on Painkiller and the band is better for it.

Firepower is NOT Judas Priest. Edit: I'm a Priest Maniac to the max, and I like much more Jugulator+Demolition than Redeemer+Firepower, I love Richie Faulkner, he's an inspiration for me, but come on guys, you can listen Ripper Era and discover many sounds, it feels really psychodelic and progressive, and the new sound feels great, they kept evolving, as they're supposed to, just to come with an incredible Angel of Retribution that is like, a tribute to their original career, elevated to the max, then Nostradamus is the opera magna, the passion, feeling, the technicity, originallity and lenght of that album, made me respect even more these guys, no other band could even try attempt to write something like Nostradamus, that's just, next level originality. I'm not saying anything about 70's/80's Priest cos they're just the best rock albums in the world. And Redeemer-Firepower seemed like a 'lets try to be 80's priest again'. No guys, you can't put out Nostradamus and then try to rewrite your old stuff, you're supposed to EVOLVE and bring up something totally fresh and modern!!! For me, their last album is British Steel 30th Anniversary, after that, is Halford's Priest. (Gotta say, Halford solo career and Glenn's solo albums are part of Judas Priest, if you're a true fan!) Haha, my rank: 19 Firepower 18 Redeemer 17 Point Of Entry 16 Demolition 15 Jugulator 14 Ram It Down 13 Nostradamus 12 Angel Of Retribution 11 Turbo 10 Painkiller 9 Rocka Rolla 8 Screaming For Vengeance 7 British Steel 6 Sin After Sin 5 Stained Class 4 Killing Machine 3 Sad Wings Of Destiny 2 Defenders Of The Faith 1 Unleashed In The East (Sorry I can't accept Judas Priest without Glenn/Ken)
