Blood Red Skies was my first piece by Judas Priest (and their best in my opinion), it was on a mixed tape given to me many, many, many years ago. I loved it and still love it and it was one of the reasons for me to explore metal in general, which is my favourite genre still today. Every time I stumble across the songs on this tape on youtube it is like a trip through time and my plans for the evening are set... Glad you liked it!

As far as I can recalll Judas Priest debuted in 1976 or somewhere around then. Their sound has actually evolved over time, so there is a lot of diversity in their overall playlist. How they sounded on their British Steel album (songs like Breaking the Law and Living after midnight) is a little bit different from Screaming for Vengeance (You"ve got another thing coming, Electric Eye), which is different from Ram it Down (Blood Red Skies). Please note I skipped albums in my examples; all those examples are 80"s (1980, 1982, 1988). Other good examples are United (1980) Reckless(1986 - if I'm not mistaken this one was at pne time shortlisted to be on the Top Gun soundtrack), and most tecently Fight for your life (2024). And of course there's my favorite album start to finish : Defenders of the Faith (1984) which was how I first heard them.

Heard on radio - you would have heard Turbo Lover and Out in the cold - from same album. Besides that - comparing to Final Countdown is heresy!! :D The word you are looking for: It is more majestic and grande than Final Countdown. If you really insist on comparing :) They should have made this the cover track in Terminator.

In the 80s, Rob developed some sort of fascination with machines taking over. Screaming for Vengeance album came out with a mechanical eagle on it, and their album covers have been littered with some sort of monster machines since then. Although there was always a question of other lifeforms as can be found in Dreamer Deciever from their 1976 album Sad Wings of Destiny. In 1980 you had Metal Gods off of the British Steel album. 1982 had the Hellion/Electric Eye. Then in 84 it could be Jawbreaker. 86 Turbo album skips any machine songs, but was an excellent album. 88 brings us Ram it Down with BloodcRed Skies. Yes, it is a song about not giving up, but also a song about fighting the machines that have taken over. 90 brings us the Painkiller album with the title track being about mankind crying to the skies and a metal being (same one on the cover) shows up to save the people from the evil. And it goes on. I'm sure you get the point by now. All in all, Priest has a MASSIVE song list filled with amazing stories and pure talent. There has never been, nor will there ever be a band like them. I would suggest looking into the Rocka Rolla, Stained Class, or Sad Wings of Destiny albums. They are early albums, and often overlooked. But if you are curious to their most mainstream song, I'd say it had to be 'You've got Another thing Coming. Great reaction. I still find it amazing that people still havent heard the music that I've been listening to for 40 years. 😁

I think the 80's vocals you are speaking of were from the Nu Wave genre. Mostly stylized by bands like Duran Duran, U2, and other bands which would have been featured in many of the 80's classic teenager movies. Pop music was a mixed bag back then.. some good stuff and some not so good. Metal, on the other hand, had a more diverse (in my opinion, of course) vocal style. From operatic to low growls to high falsettos. If you were focused mainly on 80's pop then you missed an entire wealth of music in the metal genre that is above and beyond what you have experienced.

Haba-hey, guess who. Of course it makes sense when you say the song sounds eighties but not from the eighties. Judas Priest's music is timeless and will always sound contemporary. Have a listen to Manowar (Battle Hymn, Secret Of Steel, Blood Of My Enemies and some-such) or Megadeth (Good Mourning-Black Friday, My Last Words, Hook In Mouth, etc) or Vicious Rumors (Lady Took a Chance, or their rendition of the Rolling Stones' Paint It Black) to fill-in the gaps in your cultural hole. Sorry, had to recover from my second bottle of Jack Daniel's and half a bottle of Jim Beam's here, but, "Good" music isn't connected to any time period, girl. There's not even such a thing as "good" music. Or "bad" music". There's just music you like and music you don't like. I have close to twenty-five thousand records in my collection. Mostly vinyl, a lot of CDs. In there is jazz, blues (Mississippi Delta and later), heavy blues (Ten Years After, Cream, that kinda thing), rock, Hard Rock and all forms of Heavy Metal. None of these genres or rather, sub-genres, I consider to be "bad" or "Good". I just buy stuff I like. And what I like is automatically "good". I like you, too, so, hey, you're "good s well, although you might have killed two and a half people, statistically. Doesn't make you're a "bad" person either. Just a "good" person who killed someone. It's all a matter of perception. I've been raised without religion, so, as a consequence, I don't judge nor do I have any form of prjudice because I come from a neutral background. And you're still a redhead and since I give resheads an advantage, I'm the one who's prejudiced here. Just listen to music because you want to, not because someone tells you. And certainly do not listen to music because someone tells you not to, please. Doing your own thing, carving your own path will only make you emerge a better person. And if the community you're in doesn't agree, then you're in the wrong community. Religion is not about being religious, it's about following the doctrines and dogmas of a church. Your life and well-being are worth far more than that narrow mindset. All the best from Antwerp, Belgium, from a very non-religious person.
@extremelywhitegirl2543
@extremelywhitegirl2543 3 жыл бұрын
Well....I am a religious person and I love my chosen religion but...I like to think that I am open minded. It's the right religion for me, but it's not for everybody. I also like to think I don't judge people. It's not my job. But yeah, you have a point with the good and bad music. It's just good and bad to me. :)

I can understand why youngsters of the 2020's, can't grasp 80's music. With the horrible atrocities happening in Ukraine, 80's music may be relevant again. The 80's were a darker time than what..currant young people have ever experienced, until now. I love 80's music, I don't like why it was so dark. Looks like the shadow of evil, and war, is back. 80's music was influenced by these unfortunate World events, it is dark and full of emotion, and rebellion. How does news of the atrocities in Ukraine make people feel,? We may have a second coming of dark, scary music

You are a Bop. No shame in that, it just means that you listen to mushy safe music without much dynamic. That stuff sells, which is why it was popular, and still is. Judas Priest, however, is very complex, musically deep, and does not lend itself well to radio pop music. You mention Styx a lot, which is a bit weird, I love Styx and Priest. Styx is amazing, Tommy Shaw is one of my guitar heroes, but Priest is the metal side, just a bit harder, just a bit heavier, and absolutely unreal to witness live.

Lol I wouldn't say I listen to mushy safe music without dynamic. Not all of it, anyway. I love Slipknot and other bands like that. Stuff (like Iowa) that doesn't get played on the radio. 🤣

By the way, you're right about that typical eighties sound, but, hey, guess what, that 'sound' is made by wannabe metal/hard rock bands who found an 'easy' way to become popular and make money. Motley Crue, Poison and some such, all fakes who had the right attitude for a certain press, but never ever made the grade to mingle with the likes of Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, Manowar, Motorhead, Helloween, Scorpions and other Saxons. Go British, lass, and a whole new world will open up in front of you. I'm not British, by the way, I'm from Belgium, Flemish speking. All hail to thee and may good fortune be found on your endeavours. Subscribed, meanwhile, cuz you seem to be okay. And, bloody 'ell, you're a redhead.

Incredible Song, but just NOT that song that you could have know from Judas Priest definetely 😆 for that, you should hear Painkiller, Breaking the Law, Hellion/Electric Eye and Youve got another thing coming. But their WHOLE 70's catalogue Is pure Gold too. You REALLY cant hear a bad Judas Priest song i think.

I would screen shot it but I can't...most of the songs I see are from the late 70s and into the 80s. The sound is 80s. Painkiller is actually 90s. Do they have anything earlier?

@@extremelywhitegirl2543 Judas Priest is a legendary band, all metal fans (and hard rock fans, are some still alive lol, well I am) know the Priest, There's so much to listen to, if you enjoyed this one, a rather "regular" one for me, you'll be overwhelmed by their discography.
