The crazy part of this is that they where entering their 40's when they recorded this, their 12th album. This was a statement. And the guitarwork is just next level.

Judas Priest was making a big statement with this song in 1990. Sicken and tired of hair bands and commercial songs labeled as "Heavy Metal", Judas Priest released Painkiller just to show us what real Heavy Metal was about... Thanks for sharing your great reaction to this amazing song! 🤟😎
@bartonabrams34333 ай бұрын
I agree but it was more than just that, you’ll have to forgive the fact I can’t remember the band or mag that published it but someone back in the thrash days said old school metal bands couldn’t handle modern ( at the time) metal. They should retire. Priest’s response to that was basically hold my beer, they released painkiller, dominated, and put up and comers in their place and show respect. Wish I could remember what band it was that said that

@@cyrid-5786 No problem, I didn’t know about the hair band issue, like you said that explains a lot. Definitely find it funny that those bands have died and turned to dust, Priest, they just released a new album. Goes to show you don’t mess with legends. Thumbs up to you

I'm a huge Judas Priest fan, but I'm also a huge Hair Metal fan. Hair Metal gets a bad rap, the music is far better than the image. Not that the image was an issue in my opinion. Just different types of Rock/Metal and there was room for both. The 80s were the decade of decadence, and it was a glorious time to live through in every way with the bonus of amazing Hard Rock/Heavy Metal bands. 🤟😈🤟

"What are they trying to prove?" Probably that they can still "Deliver The Goods" in true, face-melting metal - after 2 guitar-synth "sellout" albums which the fans did not warm up to (some even hated), Painkiller was the ultimate comeback/redemption album to prove they could still crush it. The whole album is like that.

Keep in mind that this was their first album following a much publicized court case in Texas where they were accused of placing subliminal messages which cause one suicide and another to become disfigured, ultimately taking his own life later. The album title and song has so much anger and energy. It could be said that it was therapeutic for the ordeal they, as a band went through for being falsely accused.

You guys think Rob is a demon? mhuahuahua... try dis guy: Will Ramos: To the Hellfire live one take ( to be found on his youtube ) , it will completely destroy you.... Rob and Ronnie James Dio were the two original METAL vocalists, period. The entire evolution of metal singing we have seen would not have taken place without those two... More Priest? screaming for vengeance live from the 1982 memphis video... there is a reason why Rob is called "the Metal God" that performance be one of them... Or try Devin Townsend from his royal albert hall performance, "deadhead" and "death of music" for example. the man has got a 7 octave vocal range...
