First, the family needs to know their child is now grown and can do everything independently. Once you are an adult, you are on your own and responsible for all your actions. Nobody else is at fault except yours when you do anything stupid. Second, disasters can happen anytime but the court orders remain the same including areas excluded by court order. It should be mandatory for everybody with a court order not to be in certain areas or be with any person to be prepared for a disaster to avoid violating a court order not to be in certain areas or be with any person not allowed by a court order. No excuses not even disasters.

Or community service as cleaning up the streets, feeding the homeless? Work at the morgue?? But I'm sure he is drinking, smoking weed, and doing other stuff he shouldn't do. Case in point. All that energy spend it on making your life better, not breaking the law. So, he's got money for weapons, but can't get a job?! Come on.....LOCK HIM UP. If he says he doesn't have a place to go to, lock him up. A month in jail will give him a NEW place to stay. And. He'll be forced to do programs, he refuses to do on the outside.

I'm sympathetic to anyone dealing with that heat without electricity, I could understand someone making a bad choice on the heels of heat desperation and panic. His lawyer needs to be replaced though, he's not only given up on his client, he's advocating against him.

I grew up without a/c. The houses built since a/c became common are not built like the houses built pre-a/c. No double hung windows, no large window exhaust fans, no evaporators, etc. I grew up in Houston and lived there during several hurricanes when electricity went out for days. With the high humidity and high temperatures it is deadly for young children, the elderly and people with serious illness. It's completely miserable for everyone else.

@@TexasVernonI too grew up in a house without a/c. A 1912 colonial with old wood frame single pane windows. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was 8. I was in and out of the hospital all spring and summer. My parents found the money to get a small in wall a/c unit for my bedroom. That was a time when a/c was literally a luxury. My life got a little easier after they got the a/c for me. Now at my age, I couldn’t imagine having to survive without it when the temps hit over 100 with 100% humidity.

I don't think it's so much the heat and humidity; in the 1950s (when I grew up) AC was not a thing. We have it in our home now, but it doesn't work really well because of the way the house is constructed. I also think the problem is the air quality is so much worse then even in the 1960s.
