I agree, the Justice Department dropped the ball, but part of their delay was likely seeking out a Special Prosecutor who was outside largely of Repubes criticism. Which to Garland's credit he found about the best person for that, and Smith has proved to be a sharp legal mind, methodical in his approach and disciplined in his actions. So Bravo there. But a large part of the delay is Drumpf doing intentional actions to put the brakes on his trials. He is starting to get denied for it, and Judge Merchan did in the Hush Money case, but SCOTUS is holding up and dragging their feet, Cannon is doing it for no reason other than because she can, and 2 cases are pending, and waiting on SCOTUS to rule on a ridiculous legal argument. So it's our appeals process.

the only legitimate basis for a pretrial appeal of a criminal case is the very narrow set of circumstances where the defendant should never even be put on trial in the first place, like the immunity from prosecution that foreign diplomats have. in tfg's criminal cases, judges are letting him file appeals based on ridiculous claims like free speech. if free speech is ever a defense in a criminal case, it is OBVIOUSLY matter for the jury to decide, not a judge at pretrial. no other criminal defendant can get pretrial appeals like this heard, and the judges need to start throwing these stupid appeals in the round file cabinet- especially the ones that have already been heard and denied in other cases.
