DCI visual adjudicator Clarke Williams' evaluation of the Racine Scouts' "From the Ashes" production during the Drum Corps International Open Class World Championship Finals, August 6, 2013, at Ames Field in Michigan City Indiana. Williams, who judged for more than 40 years on the DCI Tour including the inaugural DCI Championship Finals in 1972 and who was inducted into the DCI Hall of Fame in 1999, passed away in April of 2024 at the age of 82. We hear the judgeless tape. The real judge's tape is in the silence when he is not saying what is going badly. I generally appreciate how positive DCI judges' tapes are, but even with the best corps, somewhere the judge wants more. Here the judge is encouraging to a fault. He has nothing critical to say as the music is out of tune and/or out of balance, the marchers are out of step, the intervals and/or alignment are terrible, the flags are out of sync, and the general effect is embarrassed curiosity why this corp is worse at the end of the season than most other corps in their first performances of the season. Did none of the judges tell them what to fix? Were they merely damned all season with faint praise? Sigh.

Finals tapes are generally focused on positives and celebration. Mid season tapes are not even close to like this one. Plus, almost everything you mentioned that he should have called out is from other captions which he wasn't judging.
