I dont think this verse really makes sense from a protestant perspective, if the argument is "but we now have God" well the Isrealites of the Judges era also had God, but they lacked a more precise earthly leadership, from a catholic perspective the themes makes more sense since that was established with the institution of the Catholic Church founded on earth by Christ.
