I saw the show when she performed. Kris told her to sing a different style of music xxxx. Kris and the other judges could not sing and they sat as judges for singing contest. I may be able to help. As a regular visitor to Filo they love to have parties and one of the must have's to the party is a karaoke machine that is hired for the occasion and everyone gets to "perform" no matter what age. There always seem to be Filo music somewhere in the background when going out.

There is a video by an American ?engineer who has traveled to the Philippines and worked several years in the music industry. His thoughts on this issue are: 1) Karaoke- virtually every home has a machine where people sing daily- people sing in buses, in malls, sitting in the street, walking, etc. to get a lot of practice; 2) Filipinos sing hard songs eg ballads from the 1990s, etc. that are challenging and not the dribble/crap that we hear today (eg in the US) ; 3) it is engrained in their culture, like sports are ingrained in the cultures of many countries; 4) they see singing as a means to better themselves economically
