Dame Judi Dench DID deserve the Oscar for her role, her scenes, her presence was so powerful! She is excellent in every role she does! Among others she was also nominated for Notes On A Scandal which she should have also won for, sadly she didn't . She was beyond amazing in that one!

Dench deserves more than one oscar. She's given stellar performances in Iris, Mrs Henderson Presents, Notes on a Scandal and Mrs Brown and could have won for any one of them but she did not deserve to win for Shakespeare in Love.

Not exactly for Iris,Henderson and Notes because there were some even better performances in those years,but yes,she should've easily won for Mrs Brown over Helen Hunt's MEDIOCRE performance in As Good as it Gets.

gain al Yes very true. She certainly wasn't the best in 2001 and 2005 and rightfully lost but still they are winning performances. As for Notes on a Scandal, Helen Mirren certainly was very Very deserving but I believe that Dench's haunting lead performance was superior and should have won. But that's not what disappoints me. What disappoints me is that that Helen Mirren won every single award that year whereas Judi won absolutely nothing despite giving such a remarkable performance. But anyways she sure as well should have won for Mrs Brown and in many ways this was a make up Oscar for snubbing her the previous year.

I actually thought Dame Judi's performance in Shakespeare was really powerful and she deserved this Oscar. She stole every scene she was in, her screen presence is off the charts. She probably deserved it for Notes On A Scandal too, she was phenomenal in that. I also would've like to have seen her be nominated for her bitch-slapping of Keira Knightly in Pride And Prejudice haha.

I adored the. wonderful Robin. The terrible diagnosis of Lewy Body dementia . He knew what he who would have to face. My own husband had it and died a terrible death. So I understand why Robin killed himself. Someone of such talent to have to face hell - not bloody fair!. Miss your sense of fun Robin

The duration of the performance isn't relevant (especially for a supporting role).......the important thing is the quality....B.Straight was immense in her 5 minutes in "Network"...and she was the best in that category (and, really, I liked Piper Laurie in "Carrie").

I watched it after you recommended it… Although it was smooth and nice, it was so bloody long! Thats half the reason why I love Judy's. It's not too fast, and you don't get bored, plus she's thankful, acknowledges the other ladies, says why she's happy, and leaves. (dressed impeccably I might add)

I love this clip. Robin’s wit and delivery were spot on, as always and Dame Judi gave an elegant and humble speech. The last few seconds might be my favourite part, watching Robin walking offstage with her. He looked so protective and encouraging, with his arm around her shoulder, guiding her. He just wanted to help her in that heady, crazy moment. What a sweetheart!

God I love Judi Dench. She can do no wrong. And I love the music from that movie. All those nominees were exceptional, especially Lynn Redgrave and the great Kathy Bates, but the Academy shamefully left out two that year: Lisa Kudrow in The Opposite of Sex and Joan Allen, magnificent in Pleasantville, who should have won in my not so humble opinion.
