By all accounts, Judith was one of the sweetest, most humble stars ever. A truly magnificent voice. She and Mama Cass were incredible. And her bandmates loved her a lot, and got a chance to say final goodbyes on the phone. I tend to be more of a hard rock fan (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, BTO, etc.), but the pop harmonies of this group were scintillating. And that song, "Georgy Girl" Judith wrote about herself. She felt in the 1960s that she was too fat, whereas the rest of us saw her as a knockout. By the way, this announcer is really enjoyable to listen to. He learns about the musicians as he goes, and that is perfectly fine.

A lovely tribute to Judith. It has been a sad few days for Australia losing two of our female musical icons with the sad news about Olivia today. When the Seekers re-formed in the 90s, one of their popular new songs was 'I Am Australian' which our public broadcaster used as a station ident during covid lockdown. It proved so popular they did fresh versions - one of which featured Olivia Newton-John in what may have been her final recorded work. A sad coincidence that occurred to me today. Rest in peace you lovely ladies.

I "discovered" the Seekers about 5 years ago (no excuse, I'm a 55yr old aussie). Judith had the most amazing 'perfect pitch' voice I have ever heard. Truly a gift. Another great song is The Carnival Is Over, which is my favourite. And a solo from Judith, 'Danny Boy' which is probably the best example of her abilities.

You cannot seriously put karen anywhere near Judith, at best karen had a mediocre voice, not great range or power, she did use what she had well. But Judith had the voice of Angels. I do not know Eva Cassidy so cannot comment. I listen to incredible female singers like Vanessa Amorosi and Tina Arena, but compared to Judith they both sound nasal! Wayne, The Seekers was Australia’s version of Peter Paul and Mary. They started back in 62 ( I was born in 56 ) and they stopped in 68. Judith had one of those crisp voices and with the guys instrumental playing was something that was successful during that period. In the decades that followed they would get back together for special occasions. Listening to you read Wikipedia I see that Wiki stuffed up when saying she passed in 2002.

Judith has a one of a kind voice. Some compare them to Peter Paul and Mary (who I loved) but I think the Seekers had more charisma and Judith's voice was simply stronger. In fact, in her 70s she could still hit every note as if she was 20. Her loss is huge. She was a sweet, kind, unassuming icon. She faced so much tragedy and injury and illness and she never quit. I freaking love her. I am so sad she passed away. She will never be forgotten. She was quite the woman.

Judith was a jazz/gospel singer in the Melbourne jazz clubs before she met up with the Seekers. Classically trained on the piano, and she hoped to be a opera singer. They got a job as entertainers on a passenger liner to the UK, free passage ,10 weeks in England and a return working voyage. An older musician who had worked in the UK, sent a copy of their album to some London agents that he knew. So when the ship arrived they easily found work and then on TV. Dusty Springfield's brother Tom, contacted them as he had written a song for them (I'll Never Find Another You) which they recorded and it went to No.1. Their next two singles also went to No.1, the Seekers were the first act to achieve that in the UK. At the height of their popularity Judith left to pursue her solo career and marriage. The Seekers continued on with other female singers, never achieving the same fame. Then after 25 years they reunited, recorded, and toured the world. Still as popular as they were before.

They were a great band back in the 60s and 70s and had a large number of hits in Australia and the UK. They even had a couple of hits in the US. They never had another hit until 1987 when Bruce Woodley and Dobe Newton (of the Bushwackers) wrote a love song to Australia. This song, "I am Australian" was released in time for the Australian Bicentenary and became Australias unofficial national anthem. "I am Australian" is guaranteed to bring a tear or several to the eyes of Australians. The song with the full 5 verses is a short history of Australians, covering the first nation people, the arrival of whites and then the immigrants, Australians fighting in wars, and the conditions that Australians go through just to live here in this great country. They did a final goodbye concert a couple of years back. And then in August of this year, we lost a voice of the golden generation from the 60s and 70s. RIP Judith.

I can still remember when the Seekers retired. It was more devastating than when The Beatles split.

That was a nice tribute. I was so sorry to hear the news of her passing, I felt very sad. The Seekers were in our charts often in the sixties. I was a boy and the whole family loved them. My mother, who sang and was brought up with choral music, particularly liked her clear strong voice and good diction, and as you say the group's harmonies were wonderful. I have lived my life in Judith's company and I feel the loss of her hugely. But her singing will live with the world for ever. She was a beautiful person. RIP Judith, and love from England.

Hi watching this in Australia. We all grew up with them and sang their songs at school. I went to their Silver Jubilee concert in Sydney. We are all very sad. She had perfect pitch

I grew up on the Seekers, having their 45rpm records. I sang Georgie girl so many times over the years. I was born in 1960 so I remember her concerts in the 60's when they made an impact. She worked until very recently - the band formed for the song I am an Australian and it is on youtube. So sad she has gone but she is now with her late husband.

What a great group. So talented, this is folk music at it's best. So sad that easy listening music is not so widely appreciated anymore. Judith Durham had a wonderful unique voice, similarly Karen Carpenter. There was Dusty Springfield who was brilliant.Cilla Black dionne Warwick can't think must be more.
