One really clear example of how good this video is : for wrestlers with right foot forward, it's very common for us to collar tie, club, shove or bump someone with the right (lead arm) which is the opposite of what we usually do with a kimono on like they demonstrated here. Little details but so important!! Thank you guys for sharing

I don't know why we don't practice more standup in bjj. Everything else is clear techniques and fundamentals but when we stand up we just do whatever. At least in my experience@@MicheleAlessandroBiancoGuerra

Nice. The beauty of Judo is, you dont have to be right handed or left handed to fight righty or lefty. Unlike something like baseball.

Sure can. But it would be called hand fighting. Its a wrestling term. There are a lot of resources on that on youtube.

Can you make a video about how you strenghten your grip? In in your other videos you defend getting to a dominant position before start attacking, but my partners always break my grips before I get there...

Got a question about the right hand protecting the lapel. In the new IJF rules for 2024, it says that covering your own lapel is illegal. Would the tactic you suggest here be allowed during competition?

@sedul20064 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your videos, I watched some of your randori and noticed that you like to protect your right lapel with your left hand and then reach with your right hand to get a dominant lapel grip. Whereas in this video you are reaching with your left. What is the strategic difference or it just has to do with preference / intention and just situational positioning?

I am 6th degree, red and white belt. The red and white coral belt represents all 6th, 7th and 8th degrees. Red is 9th and 10th.

It means he has enough knowledge and fighting experience. You usually see this belt with older folks in their 50s-60s. This means he is extremely accomplished in his art at such an age.

He certainly makes some of us folks feel like underachievers. I'm 32, having started judo a little over 10 years ago and just now getting to sankyu (lowest brown belt rank) due to a layover for 3 or 4 years. Maybe I'll get into the dan ranks one of these centuries ;) If I do, I think these videos will be at least partly to thank. Loving what you do, Sensei Higashi. By the way, one of our newer coaches mentioned training with you from time to time when he's in New York. I'll try to coordinate the next time he is up there so I can join in and get some of the wisdom first-hand!
