Very, very, very vvaluable. Kumikata is a chaotic business and it's always valuable when someone tries to make it more logical and accessible. Thank you.

Thanks Shintaro for sharing your knowledge. Your videos have excelled my takedowns over this past COVID year at a time when I could not formally train. Thanks again!

One really clear example of how good this video is : for wrestlers with right foot forward, it's very common for us to collar tie, club, shove or bump someone with the right (lead arm) which is the opposite of what we usually do with a kimono on like they demonstrated here. Little details but so important!! Thank you guys for sharing

Thanks a lot. This was much needed for me. I can do several throws and take downs cleanly but my setup/grip fighting is not good enough to even allow me to get the take down.

Grip fighting hasn’t been discussed in our BJJ curriculum yet. Seems fairly important! Thank you for this video.

Probably never gonna discuss it,love BJJ and train it, but regarding stand up work they suck.

I don't know why we don't practice more standup in bjj. Everything else is clear techniques and fundamentals but when we stand up we just do whatever. At least in my experience@@MicheleAlessandroBiancoGuerra

Hi sensi, thank you so much for this. I am really struggling at my club as I am probably the weakest in my club and really struggle with any form of randori. Just keep getting overpowered. Will try and drill these techniques and hopefully I can make some progress 🙏

Judo looks so damn interesting and useful, but I'm an uncoordinated klutz. However, these vids are making me think I might be able to do it since these explanations are so clear, even I can make sense of it.
@sedul20064 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your videos, I watched some of your randori and noticed that you like to protect your right lapel with your left hand and then reach with your right hand to get a dominant lapel grip. Whereas in this video you are reaching with your left. What is the strategic difference or it just has to do with preference / intention and just situational positioning?

I really liked this video and subscribed because of it (been a long term observer tho). How would you modify for BJJ where ppl often stand fwd bent?

Hey sensei Great video. Could you also add a grip fighting variation for No-Gi if possible?
@Shigashi844 жыл бұрын
Sure can. But it would be called hand fighting. Its a wrestling term. There are a lot of resources on that on youtube.

Can you make a video about how you strenghten your grip? In in your other videos you defend getting to a dominant position before start attacking, but my partners always break my grips before I get there...

I'm left-legged but right handed so I tend to use both left and right handed grips depending on the throw.

Nice. The beauty of Judo is, you dont have to be right handed or left handed to fight righty or lefty. Unlike something like baseball.

Got a question about the right hand protecting the lapel. In the new IJF rules for 2024, it says that covering your own lapel is illegal. Would the tactic you suggest here be allowed during competition?

Hey man just curious about what belt you are and what it means in judo?
@Shigashi844 жыл бұрын
I am 6th degree, red and white belt. The red and white coral belt represents all 6th, 7th and 8th degrees. Red is 9th and 10th.
@bunnyazorth9454 жыл бұрын
It means he has enough knowledge and fighting experience. You usually see this belt with older folks in their 50s-60s. This means he is extremely accomplished in his art at such an age.

He certainly makes some of us folks feel like underachievers. I'm 32, having started judo a little over 10 years ago and just now getting to sankyu (lowest brown belt rank) due to a layover for 3 or 4 years. Maybe I'll get into the dan ranks one of these centuries ;) If I do, I think these videos will be at least partly to thank. Loving what you do, Sensei Higashi. By the way, one of our newer coaches mentioned training with you from time to time when he's in New York. I'll try to coordinate the next time he is up there so I can join in and get some of the wisdom first-hand!
