I am a 50yr old medical doctor and sport physician. Brown belt Judo. Blue belt BJJ. Blue belt Kudo. I think listening to the talk may put one off starting judo. Strength training certainly makes one injury resistent. But here are a couple of other things to consider 1) only randori once you get to orange belt and beyond. Focus on ukemis and drilling initially 2) choose your training partners well. Don't train with reckless people 3) choose a club that has a spring loaded floor. Your back will thank you. 4) listen to your body

Do you think JJJ (japanese jiu jitsu) is bettter for adults 30+ years as a alternative for judo? I went to a JJJ school couple of months ago but i dint't like the atmosphere there ( commercial and the coach was arrogant) and the syllabus of techniques is long. The judo school I have been to, was a recreational club and i liked the atmosphere there but i think the hard trows( randori) will be taxing on my body . So i'm kinda stuck where i want to go . I'm looking to your advice 🤙🥋🙏⛩

For self defence JJJ is better as it contains striking techniques as well. For older practitioners seeking to just learn a fighting art I recommend BJJ.. Easier on the body...

I started martial arts when I was 25, but I did it in a weird way. I went straight into MMA. Then I slowly branched off into boxing Muay Thai and wrestling, then BJJ. It’s like I started with the the jack of all trades, then slowly tried to specialize into other arts to solidify my mma game. Then I fell in love with grappling, especially wrestling and Jiu Jitsu. But for years I felt off, like there was something missing. I always did No Gi, but now I fell in love with the Gi. I noticed at the start of this year I always watched Judo high lights and randori because my favorite mma fighter Khabib was a Judo black belt. Couple days ago I joined a Judo club out of guts feelings and I honestly believe this is the art that I’ve been missing out on, I know this was a long story, but I’m starting Judo at 31 years old. I have a solid base with mma wrestling and BJJ, but sometimes I wonder if I am a bit late with starting out at Judo

Thanks for the video! I started judo last year at 40 yrs old and appreciate the peptalk! I'm pretty lucky that I was already pretty athletic despite being a lot weaker after getting covid because indeed judo is massively physically demanding. Not to mention that I came from being into a endurance sport rather than something that requires fast twitch muscles like judo. I'm always trying to come to terms that I'm pretty much always going to suck 90% of the time against my clubmates. I keep telling myself that I'm working on honing something that can't be measured by # of throws per class, but every once in a while when I can hit a seoi nage or kata guruma I feel so damn hype!

I'm in my 40s. We train judo one day a week at my bjj school. It is hard on the body, but we do it just enough where we learn and get to use the techniques in an overall fight or during a bjj roll. It's not judo vs judo except for that one day. So, I get to use the techniques when we roll in bjj against guys who don't attend the judo class, and I feel that's a definite edge during the standup portion of the fight.

I just got passionate about BJJ and Judo, especially about the intensity and culture of Judo. I really want to try but seeing some injuries it seems like madness. I am not talking about minor injuries, but about permanent ones. I am really competitive and going 100% is something will get me injured. Even accepting to doing Judo without competing, belts or anything... just one throw not well done, just one fall on your knee and you are done for life.. I train Calisthenics so I am aware that there is no risk 0, but there I know how to anticipate the injury by listening to my body. In judo I feel there are too many things outside of my control, and being injured for life isn't fun.. Everything is good until you get your daily life compromised..

"You don't stop playing because you get old. You get old because you stop playing" - Randy Couture (former 45 year old UFC campion). I coach high school and youth wrestling and it's not rare to have 12 yr olds and 17 yr olds get injured or pull a muscle or all sorts of stuff. When it happens to an older person the very first thing that I hear someone say is "it's the age, you have to take it easy". Granted, as you get older it takes longer to recover and you should adjust your training to account for your ability to recover. One last quote. "If you didn't know how old you are. How old would you be?"

Retirement gave me the opportunity to pick up judo again. Lot’s of fun!

Question: What would you consider the "holy trinity" system in Judo? What I mean is if one attack fails, you can likely rely on another to switch to in order to chain a failed attack to a possibly successful one. BJJ has one which is typically the switch from triangle to armbar to omaplata. Or does this beginner sequence really exist in the teachings of Judo?
@OGFITNESS4 ай бұрын
Not sure theres a universal holy trinity combo thats work for everyone, because every Judoka is gonna have different strengths, weaknesses and personality. But here’s one i like alot. Ouchi, Kouchi, Osoto

Hi bro, I recently found your channel and I appreciate all the content you make. I'm interested in joining my local Judo Club where the coaches are medalists. I'm just curious to know how much cardio is adequate for Black Belt Judokas? The only types of cardio I currently do are burpees (100 in 9 minutes) and long walks. The other type of 'cardio' or endurance type workouts I do are full body, high repetition body weight exercises (300+ reps pull ups, squats, pushups, decline pushups, dips) in one session. This normally takes around 20 minutes - 1 hour to complete. I sometimes end workouts like that after resistance training. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day. 🙏
