Great stuff! I love showing how to incorporate Judo in Muay Thai. Loved to see more.

I like the overhand to setup the head grab. I did this often usually more with hooks especially when people really want to shell up. Good point on the getting someone off balance thing. Clean sweeps can be hard to hit but getting someone off balance is a good chance to cause more damage and not have to reset on the fight.

Yes, you’re exactly right. Judo is huge on getting Kuzushi before the throw, but honestly the lesson to get your opponent off balance really sank in with me once I started doing Thai Clinch. When clinching with some of these skilled Thais (try clinching Saksurin 😅 good luck lol) it’s almost impossible to land a heavy, spearing knee without offbalancing them first. Otherwise they just sweep you when you’re on one leg. Very frustrating lol. Point is, getting someone off balance is a huge deal, and is more of a must-do rather than a should-do. Once you’ve got that mindset it actually helps your striking quite a bit as well, because any time they’re off balance they’re not getting you with a counterattack

Does sassae work with underhook?
@skyhookschool11 ай бұрын
Yessss it works great from the underhook! I’ve got a buddy that ragdolls people with that throw/grip all the time. It’s also awesome from the underhook because if they stay on their feet, you’re already in a perfect spot to transition to a hip throw

@@skyhookschool so one hand on the arm and one on neck/underhook?
@skyhookschool11 ай бұрын
@@seanchan08yes that’s ideal. With just the one arm on the neck/underhook it’s sometimes enough on its own. If you can get that inside tie on the arm as well, you’re in a good spot since you can force them to tilt a little bit with that elbow lift

Your thoughts on sukui nage or scooping throw?
@skyhookschool10 ай бұрын
Lovee that throw. Great for certain self defense situations, and great (modified slightly) as a kick-catch and sweep takedown. It’s actually my preferred way of dumping someone after catching their kick. Saenchai often does his kick-catch and dump this way, where you get in nice and close and block/lift the hip with your thigh/hip instead of kicking the base leg

Maybe when I get access to another Nelson I’ll do a video showing what I mean 💪
@skyhookschool that's how jeff chan uses it, I rarely see people using it in muay thai even tho it is legal and super effective, that's other technique that judo and muay thai have in common off course the set up is different.

@skyhookschool people on internet often talk about what is better if muay thai and bjj or wrestling and boxing, I think muay thai and judo is better than bjj, it is almost combat sambo.
