@@Tasjudoka Neil stopped being great long ago. Now he can't pronounce names or countries right, and he never goes beyond "what's gonna happen" or "change of direction". The man had his run, set the tone for current commentary job, and that's it.

Tajima's throw was the literal definition of an ippon. Not sure how you could see that and think "Hmmmm, that looks like a half-score." French boy went to the top of the Eiffel tower and came down on his back.

The last choke was Okuri Eri Jime, but a form known as Koshi Waza in Japan (from my understanding) or the clock choke in the US because you get your hips involved and then walk around them.

It's not a clock choke, as the arm is over the back of the neck, it's a type of loop choke

@@PaulGreen-rz4gg I think the position of her arm is a function of how deep her initial grip was and how much the lapel was able to slide before being stopped. It may be considered Kata Te Jime instead of Okuri Eri Jime (since only one hand is engaged) but as I said, I've heard the Japanese refer to this basic form as koshi jime. I've also often been wrong LOL.

I believe the term for the shime waza that Niizoe used is koshi jime, the hip strangle, sometimes referred to as a clock choke

What the Japanese team showed the French is that it is more about technique than power. The French players looked stronger and larger than their Japanese opponents, yet the Japanese won. Respect to both teams, certainly. While strength and size are determining factors, technique is more important. I wish Judo was more popular. It deserves more attention in sports.

She got a half point (waza-ari) for the throw itself, then got another half point for a successful hold for longer than 10 seconds. The two halves made it a full point and ended the match.

Kind of. Funakubo and Niizoe are definetely on the A team right now. Tomita has Sone's shadow, but she was the one chosen for the individuals, so she is also on the A team. The guys are all from the B team. Might even be C team actually. Hashimoto,Ono,Oyoshi are in front of Harada imo. Saito, Kageura, Harasawa, Ogawa are in front of Ota imo. Mashiyama,Murao, Nagasawa, Mukai are in front of Tajima imo.

Cysique lost on shidos to Bilodid in a bit of an ugly match in the individuals. She is really good though. She made the olympic final and got dq'd for a head dive, and then smashed Yoshida in the olympic team event to win the whole match.

Ah, the match where Bilodid was allowed 30 second breaks in between each exchange, but somehow Cysique was the one being penalised? Another classic refereeing display from the IJF. Only to repeat the same thing with the Griglashvilli vs Nagase fight.
