If you wanted to see the women who are competing, here is a list: www.judo.or.jp/judo-grandslam/player/ Same as the men's, only two for the categories who have already decided who is going to the olympics. For Maruyama, I personally think he doesn't want to compete in any competition with Abe anymore. There was an interview where he said he just wants to continue to show the world his judo, and I think it would be better for him mentally not to have to prepare for Abe anymore.

This time they decided to field one Junior judoka per category and they took precedent over everyone else. So in the only 2 Judoka categories is the Olympian + the Junior, so that there is less risk of the one going to the Olympics of losing points to other Japanese. Basically, Maruyama, Tanaka, Takeoka, Fujisaka, etc could make Abe's life harder so they decided for this approach. Tajima could make Murao's life harder, and so forth. Is a pragmatic approach of securing the most points for the one going to the Olympics, but I don't like it. However thr 強化 team already said that the ones who placed well in the Kodokan will have their chance after the Tokyo Grand Slam. So I expect at least the winners of the Kodokan to go out in the early 2024 Grand Prix and Grand Slams.

They took only two athletes in the categories where the Olympian was selected, and four athletes where the Olympic candidate was not yet selected (U60 and U100 at this point).

Just two judokas in the categories where the olympian selected... I don't really understand why And where is my favorite Maruyama sempai???
@reymysterio13__50 Жыл бұрын
Basically to ensure that the Olympian gets more points. If Abe lost to Maruyama it would be detrimental in the rankings, so they decided for this approach. I don't like it, but it's a pragmatic one.

I have a question. How many athletes can certain countries send in competitions? And how do you qualify for WC and Olympic games?
@JudoHighlights2015 Жыл бұрын
there's a point system. If you're the home country you can send 4 athletes to any competition. If not, you can only send one or two. There's like a limit for the whole country across all weight categories so usually you find one or two categories with 2 atheltes.

Hey, I'm a bit confused so is the Japanese team separated into different sub teams to go out in the world to compete? Because I feel like (note that I dont know much about the current judoka for Japanese Team ) I dont see Joshiro Maruyama or like Hifumi Abe.

Another informative video, thanks. You tipped ABE and FUKUDA for the U66kg division, so where's MARUYAMA (my favourite perennial runner up) Is he injured, unavailable or is FUKUDA the up and coming prospect...and poor "old" MARUYAMA is being overlooked.
@reymysterio13__50 Жыл бұрын
Maruyama is fine, is just that the plan for the ones already selected for the Olympics is to gain more points, that basically means not sending their strongest (Kodokan winners/other senior judoka) plus reducing the judoka that are fielder (only 2 where the one that's going to the Olympics). I believe Maruyama's next competition will be the Senbatsu in April next year.
