Beautiful Judy Garland always gave a flawless performance. This "Suspense" episode "Drive In" was absolutely awesome. Wow, I really enjoyed listening to this. Judy Garland was the best performer ever.

I found this absolutely spell-binding. It's not only a time capsule of the old Hollywood era and its legendary players, but given to us in such excellent quality I was transported back. You have done a magnificent job here, and I want to thank you. Kindest regards, David.

I just stumbled onto this gem. The thing that surprises me the most is just how well acted it was. I cannot think of a time that Judy did a better job. I think that perhaps in all of her other vehicles, her acting talents were overshadowed by other concerns.
@SuspenseESCAPEremastered2 жыл бұрын
She did have a few "other concerns." I'm glad you found this - you'll find that just about every major movie star did Suspense!

Judy Garland was my first Hollywood crush. When my eyes attached to her on screen, and my ears heard her voice i just wanted to be with her. Don't try to be rational beyond that point and make sense of anything! :)

Wow....can you imagine Judy Garland as a damsel in distress in Film Noir....?An interesting piece of counter casting, an opportunity she never would have received at MGM.

So who are the ones that vote thumbs down? What, having the opportunity to hear a 70+ year old recording that sounds crystal clear isn't good enough for you to enjoy? I think at the very least you should at least provide your reasons.

There's a rehearsal recording of this episode, with some extra lines, and a gentler portrayal of the Man, with more pathos. I really felt sorry for him, and wished he'd met a kinder fate. For some reason, Elliott Lewis used the pseudonym "Raymond Lewis" on this episode, and "Raymond E. Lewis" on the "Philomel Cottage" episode of "Suspense". These seem to be the only times he used this pseudonym. I've not been able to find out why. The War was over, and he was out of the AFRS, so it's not that he had to fly under the radar to do these gigs. In 1941, when Judy played her first grown-up role in "Eternally Yours", on "Silver Theatre", Elliott Lewis played her loving husband. Completely different from the role he plays in "Drive In".

I'm not sure about the name, either. I do recall an interview that he once said he never actually enjoyed acting, except with Phil and Alice! The guy was talented, for sure.

@@SuspenseESCAPEremastered I've just directed and performed in a recreation of one of the 13 lost "Suspense" episodes, "The Eavesdropper" (1956), with Project Audion. Joe Webb (author of "The Suspense Collector's Companion") recently found the script, and suggested that we perform it, because we'd be the first since 1956 (no pressure...). It premieres on Project Audion's KZbin channel, tomorrow night at 9:00 EDT. We did it via Zoom, because we're scattered throughout North America. Though it was recorded with our cameras on, listen with your eyes closed, for maximum impact. Especially in the climactic scene. It's a doozy. 😉

Holy cow, thanks so much for curating this amazing collection! I discovered your channel when looking for "Sorry, Wrong Number," which my junior high English teacher played for us on LP "back in the day." I am wondering if you might be able to recommend some episodes that deal with ghostly encounters, seances, or haunted houses? Appreciate your thoughts, and thank you again for this wonderful channel!

Welcome! I still listen to these shows every night! Scroll through my playlists where you'll find the sci-fi and horror episodes. Both Escape and Suspense did many horror episodes, like "The fall of the house of Usher," and "The suicide club." My favorite is "Papa Benjamin."

I'm not sure who plays the cop, but Joseph Kearns is both the Voice of Suspense and the movie producer who drives up with his wife (played by Cathy Lewis) when the Man is kissing the Waitress.
@jeffreyberkin-ez3uh2 ай бұрын
Sometimes it's funny when these actors play more than one role. Cathy Lewis also was Ruth. I almost wished that Judy would cry out and say "Hey Ruth, here I am"😅 I wish that they had given "The Man" his props: his name was Elliott, not Raymond 😢 Anyway, love Judy. What a fragile angel she was ❤
